Finally, Time for Spring Shoes

Now I do not want to be too optimistic, but I am putting my cozy boots away. If I have to bust them out again I may cry, but until then I am going to relish putting pretty shoes again.
There are so many fun, girly shoe trends this season.
Lots of bows and knots and plenty of different hues of pink to make us smile. There is something about Spring that really brings out the most femme pieces which is delightful.
So far I am wearing these and these the most, but here are some other fun pairs that would be perfect through Spring and into Summer.
Note: Almost every single one of these shoes comes in multiple colors.

1. These lace up wedge espadrilles are so pretty / 2. A slim slide with just sweet enough bows / 3. I worship this pink mule / 4. The perfect dressier flip flop / 5. Liking sneakers with a little platform  / 6. Block heeled mules are everywhere and so comfy / 7. A bowed skimmer to pull any outfit together / 8. A bow tie ankle strap is so sexy / 9. Apparently these are one of the comfiest sneakers ever made / 10. The transparent trend done just right. These too / 11. Beautiful laser cut details on this espadrille / 12. LOVE these pool slides / 13. A robin's egg blue loafer / 14. Gorgeous heels for night out. Or these / 15. These espadrille wedges would look great with anything / 16. Simple, but chic slides / 17. The perfect on the run slide

Spring Break Fever

We are deep in the season where you talk about the weather a lot and it is a bummer. So though this post is all about getting out of town, I do try to enjoy my own even in this dirty snow/maybe raining/but always cold time of year.

Like enjoying that the sun is actually shining past 5pm.
And magic hour is a thing even in the winter.
Or jumping in a puddle with one of the kids to make their day.
And cozy sweaters by fires somewhere with friends.
Mostly I am complaining, but every so often we make the best of it.

And when I am in the get me out of here head space, I start looking for fun new pieces to enjoy in the warm sun. Hence this heavenly packing list that would be perfect anywhere a pool and cold drinks is involved. And for those of you that live in the desert or by the beach year round, something for your every day closet, you lucky girl.

1. Love this Ulla Johnson dress for day or night
2. A one piece - two piece hybrid I am digging. This one too
3. A minimalist leather sandal is always so chic
4. A high quality stripe shirt to half tuck into #5
5. The high waisted boyfriend denim shorts that anyone can wear
6. The combo of blue mirrored lenses and tortoise is so good on these glasses
7. DYING over this wide leg jumpsuit. This one too
8. A leopard shirt cover up is unexpected and I like it
9. Valentino slides you can wear every day everywhere. These are great too.
10. A silk t shirt dress that easily dresses up or down
11. Classic white sneakers that go good with dresses too
12. This ruffle top and hipster bottom are so cute. Also comes in a one piece
13. A chambray baby doll that is easy to eat cheeseburgers in
14. A super sweet yellow gingham dress
15. Pink shades that are just pink enough
16. A ruffled low block heel because who wants to wear high heels on vacay?

Slide On

Though block heels and espadrilles had real moments this Summer. No shoe was the shoe of the season like the slide. And not fancy slides, but the kind you could wear absolutely anywhere. They look great at the pool, they are comfy for running errands, they even work with that favorite light summer dress of yours. They just work, and quite frankly can into Fall. Love them paired with skinny jeans and the even cooler cropped wide leg culotte (yep, you heard that right).

I bought this pair a few weeks ago and cannot get enough.

They come in a bunch of colors, have great lift, are super soft, plus feel elevated but casual.

Here are some other options, all at a great price, that could easily be your new every day shoe from now until snow season.

1. I love the floral print of these from Shopbop
2. A slightly more femme version of the classic Adidas
3. Love these pink Everlane. Also come in a bunch of colors.
4. These furry numbers are cozy also come in black and pink. (these look amazing if you want to splurge)
5. Love just the hint of espadrille of these Splendid
6. These look very Gucci-esque for about 1/10 the price.
7. Another update to a classic, cozy sweatband Adidas
8. Pom poms are never not fun or cute
9. Vince always does minimalism at its best. Also in black

No Socks Season

Somehow the act of tying not only little peoples shoes, but also my own seems like a lot. Which sounds so ridiculous, but while I wrestle with the kids to get ready to leave (socks/shoes/coats/still wiping yogurt from their faces) the thought of slipping something on and running out the door is heaven. Plus, slip ons work just as great on your way to yoga as they do with a pretty sun dress for drinks. I also love how they look with just a good old pair of skinnies and a t-shirt/leather jacket.

1. Vince really perfected the style. Love this perforated update $195
2. Have always loved these Via Spiga and they also come in black $150
3. Cannot resist pink and a bow. Ordered these $130 (other colors)
4. Love the gray and poms of these Sam Edelman $100
5. This Everlane pair has a slight wedge. $135
6. This white and beige pair has a great platform and details. $149
7. Classic Vans in stripes $51
8. Love these old school tennis style Calvin Kleins $71 (on sale)
9. You know these have to comfortable from Ugg $84 (other colors)
10. Such a sucker for a tassel from Rachel Zoe $228
11. A sweet update on Keds. Yes, Keds! $54
12. Love these tasseled, moch style from JSlides $134 (other colors)
13. Another classic Jack Purcell. Love $64

Make Me Blush

Happy Weekend loves. Anything fun planned? We are going to enjoy a good amount of unscheduled fun with the kids and then I have the privilege of co-hosting a baby shower for two lovely ladies. Both of which are having baby girls, which is sooo on trend right now. Well at least the pink part. ha Blush is everywhere and I am digging it. It is an easy neutral to work into your stand by pieces and looks good on everyone. Plus, who could not feel feminine and cheery in soft pink? That is right, no one. Here are some fun pieces in spring's hottest hue...

1. This dress is too sweet and screams "wear me to Easter Brunch!)
2. LOVE these suede open toed booties. Would look great with skinny jeans.
3. We still need sweaters and I am gaga over this one
4. Love a blush and gold moment. They also come in an oversized square shape
5. The thought of this pretty tulle maxi skirt paired with a body suit or luxe t-shirt makes me so happy.
6. The perfect jersey dress to wear with flats all day and your fave heels at night.
7. A blush market bag to hold everything.
8. All the cool girls are wearing culottes. This jumpsuit, I can get behind.
9. The prettiest sandals maybe ever.
10. Because cold shouldering is here to stay and I love the eyelet
11. A little pink seersucker number. Also comes in flat blush.
12. An easy, comfy dress that you will reach for all Spring long. (add leggings now, bare legs later)
13. So I have a strange obsession with backpacks right now. This one would be perfection.
14. Part varsity sweater, part perfect jean topper. (and later denim cut offs)
15. A classic zipper clutch in a pretty pink.
16. The go to flats that I always go back to.

Current Favorites

How is Fall going, friends? Sinking into spiced everything and a possible scarf well? We have been on a bit of a whirlwind which has not let me enjoy the season as much I would like, but I plan on making the best of it while it lasts. An extra afternoon coffee spiked with cinnamon and getting cozy with the kids before bed are helping me remember it is Fall. Here are some other things that are helping make my days brighter...

1. Love these Sorel boots I just got. They also come in blue, coral, and brown and gray
2. I use quite a few of the Glossier products, but this new cover up they make is by far my favorite right now. Melts into your skin, perfect for under eyes and hides redness around the nose.
3. I have become an almond milk snob and I am not even lactose intolerant. I just LOVE this toasted coconut almond milk so much in my dirty chai in the morning. I wake up early to make it instead of going to Starbucks.
4. My kids have had these magnetic drawing lap pads for years, but all the sudden they are the shining stars of the toy collection. Keeps them busy!
5. If you have not discovered the Wet Brush yet for yourself and any possible little heads in your house, get one. A light touch gets even the nastiest tangles out.
6. I have not been buying too many new skin products lately since my revelation, but I have been insistently using this Honest Beauty Magic Balm. Obviously it is great on lips, but it is also great on cuticles, eye lids (for a bit of shine), and any dry patches. Plus, it is pretty.
7. Almost done reading this tear jerker. Can't wait to see the movie.
8. In the mood to make this smokey, healthy but hearty, Turkey Sausage and Lentil Soup this week.
9. Every Fall I end up going back for another pair of these flats. The perfect shape and it comes in such great colors.

Channeling Capri

Many years ago, in a lifetime far away, Matt and I spent 5 glorious days in Capri. It was the last leg of our honeymoon. We lounged on our terrace overlooking the Med, ate three course meals at least twice a day, roamed the cobble stone streets while eating gelato, and took breezy salt aired boat rides.
Heaven.
And frankly does not even sound real now as I sip cold coffee and watch it drizzle outside. We will go back one day we always say. Which I believe and will of course look forward to. Even if it is a decade or more from now.
I remember we shopped a bit while we were there, but I only really treasure one piece from that trip. A pair of handmade sandals I bought from the sweetest little Italian man who also gave us great advice on where to eat lunch that day. I have not worn them much in the last few years, but simple leather sandals are having a moment right now and they have come out of hiding.

I even found a very similar pair on Shopbop. I did some more browsing and found some other options that I am loving. A clean modern sandal that will stand the test of time. They look great with summer dresses and cuffed jeans. It makes skipping heels (which I do more often then not these days) a much easier decision and elevates errand running and pool trips.

Time for Spring Breaking

Are you off somewhere warm? Hope so.
I am a little late on my Spring Break packing post as I know that some of you might already be on yours or headed out of town, but my packing does not start until next week so here I am. Since the kids stuff takes up at least half of our packing space, I like to keep things light and coordinated. Makes it easy to not only pack, but to pick what to wear once you are there.  Here is what I am going to bring (either the exact or close match to) this year...

1. A straw bag that doesn't mind a little sand, but fits everything. Hat Attack $95
2. My fave mineral sunscreen powder now comes in spf 50. It is waterproof and gives you a nice even coverage. Sunscience $64 (lasts forever)
3. Worship these frames from Warby Parker $95
4. A actual packable hat that can get squished in your bag. J. Crew $34
5. Soft PJs that wash well, look nice, and are ok for your in laws to see you in. J. Crew $58
6. This suit looks great with cut off shorts and flips. Total 90s throwback. J. Crew $88 (many colors)
7. A breezy and sweet cover up. J. Crew $69

(Think I have enough J. Crew going on? Geez. But kind of obsessed with everything there lately and there seems to be a sale every day.)

These tops...
From Left:
A gauzey, boho blouse with tassels that goes with everything. BB Dakota $85
Remember when tanks had shelf bras in them in the early 00s? Yea, J. Crew is making them again. $24
My love for Cloth & Stone runs deep, and this coral button down is so soft and perfect. $88
A forgiving, but sweet ruffle top for big dinners out. d.Ra $84

All the tops can be worn with each of these shorts...
1. Easily the best pair of lace shorts I have bought. Loft $59 (other colors available)
2. A sweet pair of floral drawstring shorts. Minkpink $59
3. My go to J. Crew cut offs. $79
4. Who doesn't love a skort? And I love the print/woven material. Cupcakes & Cashmere $100

Dresses for different occasions...
I am a sucker for Parker and I love this silhouette. $265
This dress could go from the beach straight to dinner. Loft $79 + 25% off today
A little ballet nod in a super flattering cut. Susana Monaco $170 (yellow also, $119)

I swear by the three pairs of shoes rule. All you need...
1. A wedge that matches everything when you want a lift. Loeffler Randall $275
2. A flip flop that can hang by the pool or be paired with a dress later. J. Crew $50 (also in back)
3. A white sneaker for everywhere else. Adidas $74 (check out the sizing notes when ordering)

Anything you cannot leave behind? Would love to hear.
Happy Travels!

Fall Shoe Shopping

While I never admit to the end of Summer, even after school has started and the pool is closed. I have to say that this year it is feeling a bit too much of a reality with the Fall like temperatures in flippin AUGUST. I wore a full blown jacket yesterday.
And while I am already mourning pool time and al fresco dining, like every other woman on the planet I do get excited for chunky sweaters, jeans without breaking a sweat, and a new crop of Fall shoes. Whether it is the back to school mentality (even if you know absolutely no one going back to it), or just that switch to the shortest, sweetest season there is, Fall gets everyone excited for shiny new things in the closet.
So I rounded up some of the coming season's best pairs to embrace the colder temperatures, everything pumpkin flavored, and let's admit it, leggings.

1. These are a classic and come in extended calf (which I need!) J. Crew $328 (other colors)
2. Great shape and price for theseTreasure & Bond $119
3. Such a sucker for a pale pink ballet flat J. Crew $125 (other colors)
4. Slide on mules are back. Missed them J. Crew $158 (other colors)
5. These would look great with skinny jeans Dolce Vita $130
6. These booties are so flattering Nine West $118  (other colors)
7. The sweetest little flats Ted Baker $90
8. Love the color combo Nike $85 (other colors)
9. So comfy and love anything menswear inspired Gentle Souls $149
10. The cut out of these pumps is so pretty Louise et Cie $119 (other colors)
11. The gold detail on these boots is killer BCBG $425
12. My favorite booty style for Fall Kate Spade $358
13. The green is so fun New Balance $79 (other colors)

Current Favorites

This week was busy, but it wasn't. Do you know what I mean? Not a lot of things on the calendar, but the days were filled with to do lists, errands, cleaning up after the kids, and after bedtime chores. And because my mind is on lame things like how to get rid of the fruit flies in my house, my creativity for writing was shot. But I at least wanted to leave you with some things that are making me happy.

1. I have been craving this sausage and kale soup so much. Cannot wait to make a big pot of it this weekend.
2. My mother in law dropped off some of this wine, Imprimata, for us and it is AMAZING. If you see it or looking to order some red, it is delicious.
 3. So loving my new Splendid jumpsuit. Think I might sport it to my high school reunion next weekend (15 years ack!). But I love that I can also wear it with flats to run errands and feel chic.
4. Our current Netflix binge watching obsession is Damages. Have you watched it? If you like Scandal or Law & Order, it is kind of a mix of the two of them. And the clothes are impeccable.
5. If you need a laugh this weekend, start following The Fat Jewish on Instagram. So so inappropriate, but so hilarious. Here is a recent NYT story on him.
6. Fashion week(s) are ending soon and I usually just watch snippets on Instagram (follow Miraduma, anna_dello_russo, and ninagarcia) to see the shows. I thought Fendi was so lovely. Especially this leather pleated dress.
7. I literally have like ten of these Clinque Chubby Sticks in my bag and I love them. Part balm, part lip color, and so easy to put on.
8. Got to break out my favorite loafers this week. These Minnetonkas are basically like wearing slippers in public.

I hope you have the best weekend and get to enjoy all your favorites too.

White Hot Summer

I cannot remember the last time I bought white shoes. Sandals or not, the last pair had to be my wedding shoes or maybe a pair of flips. Though they are usually not on my radar, I came across this pair last week and could not resist.

I cannot find them anywhere on the web, but if you are in Chicago they are on sale at the Christian Louboutin store on Oak. I loved the detail and while they also came in a much more sensible brown leather, the white was something different. There was a sweet woman browsing while I was trying them on and reminded me that white "pops, like no other color," and she was so right.

The ladies above are showing a lot of white on white, but I think I will sport these with other pastels and blue for a prep vibe. Here are some other white sandals that I think would be so fun for the summer.

1. Snakeskin is a great addition to the classic Stuart Weitzman $398
2. Perfect with flirty summer dresses. Gap $44
3. Worship these Joie sandals $125
4. Classic and they look comfy. Topshop $75
5. I have to say I love a Birk, so this trend is fun to me. This style would be the way I would go. $80
6. The buckle detail and white heel are fun Obelia $99
7. Love this modern take on a summer sandal by Halogen $99
8. All white Topshop would be perfect with a bright dress. $80

How do you feel about white?

Every Day Kicks

Sliding on the Havianas has become a habit. Though I would like to wear something a bit more elevated (in style and height), it just does not happen. This summer though, I plan on making a change and hope one of these options gets play more than the flips. They need to comfy so I can still run after the kids, while also being cute and versatile with everything in the closet.

Note: Hover over the image for info and click to shop. Trying a new tool here, so let me know what you think.

Loving the slides because I know they are easy to get on and off. But those Seychelles have been on my radar for awhile and I would sport them out for dinner Which is your favorite?

Steal the Look: Karlie, Miranda & Sienna

These three ladies had my favorite looks this week. All of them are always so put together, even when it seems like they are barely trying. Though these are all very different looks, I noticed that there is very little accessories involved. No statement jewelry or stacks of bangles, just classic silhouettes and pieces perfectly matched.

Karlie's buttery dress is gorg. That is a really hard dress cut to pull off if you are not as tall and pin thin as her. A fit and flare would be more flattering on us mortals and I love that pointy toe heels are making a come back.

Parker dress, Manolo Blahnik shoes

Miranda is killing it. From the red carpet, to the airport, to lunching with her little man, she always looks amazing. I love this look because it shows you can probably throw this together with a few new pieces with what you already have. Simple, classic, with a splash of color.

T by Alexander Wang shirt, Missoni scarf, AG jeans, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, Seychelles sandals

I love me a good floral. Girlie and femme with a bit of flirt. Sienna kept it simple with some drop earrings, soft waves in her hair, and some strappy sandals. I LOVE the Parker dress that is similar, thinking of going on a limb and ordering in my hope-to-be-again size.

J. Crew earrings, Parker dress, Alexandre Birman sandals

Which one is your favorite inspiration?

My wish list for Christmas always has expectations well beyond what will actually be opened come December 25th. But it is fun to put together a list of what you love and it helps you understand what you actually might need.

Because of the new house, my list includes quite a few decor options that would make me smile. Plus, there are my usual smattering of beauty products I either want to try or need more of, a couple delicate jewelry pieces, clothes that would fill holes in my closet, shoes that replace scuffed ones, electronics that would improve my life, and a couple of far fetched items that I am dreaming of.
