What I am Packing

To say that I am pysched on a vacation is a huge understatement. I need some sunshine, quiet, and endless chips and salsa. The quiet will be attainable since the kids are staying home. Which as anyone that travels with kids knows makes it an actual vacation, not just a trip. I love my kids, but mama needs a break from doing all the things.

I am bringing a mix of new finds and my tried and true staples.

1. Just got this Le Specs and I LOVE them. Oversized, seriously mirrored, and I love the neutral tone.
2. These pool slides are an investment, but I wear them everywhere. And you cannot go wrong with these
3. This Sunscreen Oil is approved by my dermo and apparently amazing. Cannot wait to try it out.
4. Hands down my favorite bikini and it is on sale in so many colors.
5. A new sun hat with an extra parge brim and perfect shape.
6. My favorite high waisted jeans shorts to pair with tees.
7. A pretty cover up in a style I buy over and over again. This too.
8. Just got this cloud paint from Glossier and I love the sweet hue it gived my cheeks.
9. A wild new one piece swimsuit
10. I have this dress in red and love it. You feel instantly chic and the fit is so flattering.
11. I love tan towels to bronze up my face since I cover it from the sun most of the time.
12. And I use this magic powder for face sunscreen. If you do not own this, GET IT. It works so well, is super waterproof/sweatproof, and worth every penny. This size lasts a long time.
13. These rubber Valentinos are perfect for packing. They can easily be worn to the beach and then later again for dinner. Loving these too.

Make sure to follow me on Instagram and I will post from my trip!

Spring Break Fever

We are deep in the season where you talk about the weather a lot and it is a bummer. So though this post is all about getting out of town, I do try to enjoy my own even in this dirty snow/maybe raining/but always cold time of year.

Like enjoying that the sun is actually shining past 5pm.
And magic hour is a thing even in the winter.
Or jumping in a puddle with one of the kids to make their day.
And cozy sweaters by fires somewhere with friends.
Mostly I am complaining, but every so often we make the best of it.

And when I am in the get me out of here head space, I start looking for fun new pieces to enjoy in the warm sun. Hence this heavenly packing list that would be perfect anywhere a pool and cold drinks is involved. And for those of you that live in the desert or by the beach year round, something for your every day closet, you lucky girl.

Spring Break Wish List

Though we are headed for both snow and sun this year, I have much more fun looking for warm weather pieces than cold. You get more longevity out of them going into the warmer months. Plus, it is a great reminder that Summer is kind of almost here. I know some of you may be headed out soon, but there is still time to grab a couple pieces to get you even more excited for your trip. Here is what I am coveting...

Time for Spring Breaking

Are you off somewhere warm? Hope so.
I am a little late on my Spring Break packing post as I know that some of you might already be on yours or headed out of town, but my packing does not start until next week so here I am. Since the kids stuff takes up at least half of our packing space, I like to keep things light and coordinated. Makes it easy to not only pack, but to pick what to wear once you are there.  Here is what I am going to bring (either the exact or close match to) this year...

1. A straw bag that doesn't mind a little sand, but fits everything. Hat Attack $95

These tops...
From Left:
A gauzey, boho blouse with tassels that goes with everything. BB Dakota $85
Remember when tanks had shelf bras in them in the early 00s? Yea, J. Crew is making them again. $24

A forgiving, but sweet ruffle top for big dinners out. d.Ra $84

All the tops can be worn with each of these shorts...
1. Easily the best pair of lace shorts I have bought. Loft $59 (other colors available)

Dresses for different occasions...

Spring Break Finds Under $200

Yes, yes, we keep talking about getting the heck out of dodge, but I cannot help it. And after a few more requests for new pieces for Spring Break escapes, I thought I would share what some of our favorite stores have to offer for under $200. Because a girl needs to save her pennies for all those frosty drinks and sunset dinners...

From Net-a-Porter: These lace shorts are such a great coverup. Wear with a silky tank for lunch $175 / Minimalist leather sandals will work anywhere day or night $185 / A gauzy coral shirt dress is so chic over your suit. Wear back at home over leggings or skinnies $195 / Love a necklace that is super long to wear with a dress or even with your bikini $40

From Nordstrom: Parker makes a killer maxi, this is a great deal if you like the print $131 / 2. Comfy and beachy pants $148 / 3. A retro striped surfer girl romper. Love this $49 / 4. Nautical and sweet striped romper $99 / 5. This dress is a great classic in a fun color. Sexy, but not overtly so $198

From Asos: A cotton maxi that goes anywhere day to night $34 (more colors) / This strapless is also an easy throw on anywhere dress (more colors) $28 / Love the delicate lace on this sweet dress $67

From Shopbop: Love the touch of delicate lace on this maxi $152 / A beaded and embroidered tunic is something you would wear forever $148/ An easy fun tank dress for over your suit $90 / I am a sucker for a stripe, and I love the black and white of this dress $65

From J. Crew:  Pair these over a suit or with your favorite white tank Cabana Pant $69 + 25% off (also comes in white and black)  / Obsessed with this Mara Hoffman romper $185 / Classic Embroidered Tunic  to wear as a cover up or at night with sandals $78 + 25% off

I have both of those hats and live in them on vacation. The floppy straw hat ($25) is easily packable and large to block the sun. The panama hat ($68) is such a great look, but you have to carry it on or wear on the plane. Which is really a great look, actually.

What I am Packing: Spring Break

While I know it is much later than most, my Spring Break starts Saturday. Seriously, get me out of here. While it is getting warmer, it is that lame in between time when people think it is warm for good and then it snows. I am trying to pack light to this trip to Florida and hope to get lots of use out of these new additions...

1. I am totally obsessed with this J. Crew cover up for the beach. Can be worn as a tunic over a bikini or with shorts for walking around.
2. Loving this Kate Sommerville SPF Serum. Super lightweight and SPF 55.
3. I am big fan of Victoria's Secret for bikinis. They are inexpensive and come in great cuts that flatter. Have you tried the Bikini Mixer? It is so fun.
4. Cut offs in a dark wash go with everything. Gap
5. Digging original Wayfayers for Florida.
6. I got this Joie top to go with my new white jeans.
7. When on vacay, I bring three pairs of shoes. Havianas, nude wedges that go with everything, and running shoes.
8. I have written about this Rebecca Minkoff bag many times. The versatility of it is perfect for packing. Clutch, cross body, and shoulder bag all in one. Comes in a ton of colors.

Still have to wait the week out. Will need that much time to get the kids organized to go. It feels like I am moving an entire city when I start packing and making lists for them. It will be totally worth it.

Spring Break Recap

It has taken more than a few days to get back to reality. Coming down from the high of constant sunshine and the ever present sound of waves crashing is even harder when it is 35 outside. All you can do is hope it happens again. Soon. So what was I up to the last two weeks in Florida?

I finally got to wear the Prabal Gurung for Target dress that I picked up the last time I needed milk. It just needed a belt and some warm weather.

I really do not get past reading magazines when I am at home, but I took full advantage of nap times by finally reading the book that has been looming on my bedside tables since Christmas.

I LOVED this book. It was the perfect quick vacation read, was chock full of incredible stories filled with fashion's most influential people of the last fifty years. If you have seen The September Issue, can rattle off photographer and model names easily, and are interested in how Grace Coddington got to be the most influential woman (besides Anna) in fashion, add it to your must read list.

The little man got dressed for dinner most nights. So fancy. I died when I put him in these RL khakis that had a belt. So grown up.

It was chilly at night and we walked a lot, so I was psyched that I packed these fold up flats. So comfy and look great with cropped skinnies or a short dress.

Fresh seafood is always the highlight of the meals I have there. But I could also not get enough of these Spicy Rosemary & Maple nuts that my Mother-in-law made. They are beyond addicting and I found a similar recipe here

There were a lot of beautiful sunsets from the balcony.

And one special one with the babe.

Trying to get my routine back at home, but I am not going to lie and say I wish I was not still there. There is always the next trip to look forward to and mine is a girls only trip to AZ. Super excited for that get away. Where are you headed this Spring?
