Nicole Ritchie + Macy's

Always a fan of Nicole Ritchie's personal style and her Winter Kate and House of Harlow lines, I was interested to see her lower priced line at Macy's. She has been sporting some of the looks for recent appearances....

And I have to say I am into it. Great prints, forgiving and flattering silhouettes, and new takes on some old classic pieces.

Macy's is not exactly a place that is on the top of my shopping list. But this is not the first time it has surprised me. I ended up finding my wedding dress there by chance and not in one of the fab boutiques I thought I would.

One of these pieces would be on the top of my Fall list and the price point makes shopping for it even more fun.

Now just need to decide which to order....

Girl Crush: Miroslava Duma

It has been a busy week and getting through all the images of all of the shows during fashion week is not happening. It is even a little hard seeing all the light pretty clothes when I am really looking forward to sweaters and boots. So far Alexander Wang, Victoria Victoria Beckham and Rebecca Minkoff are highlights and I hope to get through some more of the shows over the next week.

Let's face it though, seeing the street style rivals the shows themselves. While the Courtin-Clarins sisters are still my fave girls to see, Miroslava Duma has seriously won me over with her eclectic, pulled together, yet I-just-threw-this-on style.

I love her easiness and choices that appear to come straight from her own closet, not a stylist's. Miroslava also does not pick choices to make too bold of a statement, just to make a statement. She has fantastic style and I wish I could sit front row with this girl.

At the very least we can get inspired by some of her looks this week and channel a bit of what this girl has showed us on the streets of NYC.

1. Coach $198
2. ASOS $112
3. Baublebar $300
4. Marc Jacobs $298
5. Baublebar $49
6. J. Crew $175
7. Madewell $118
8. J. Crew $95
10. Baublebar $36
11. TopShop $58

Happy NYFW.

A Little Fall Feline

I used to be completely averse to leopard print. It always looked a little cheap and was never really incorporated well into a look. I have been warming up over the last couple of years. I have yet to really dive in with a ton of pieces, but I think shoes are the perfect way to add a little wildlife into Fall. The print looks great with jeans, a little black dress, with leggings and your favorite sweater. Flats, wedges, sandals, and pumps, there are so many choices...

1. Jimmy Choo $795
2. Madewell $135 (love)
3. Dune $146
4. Madewell $398 (obsessed)
5. Me Too $70
6. J. Crew $188 (on sale! Perfect for work)
7. TopShop $90
8. J. Crew $298

Fall Uniform

I have spoken about uniforms before, and if what I have been gravitating to already for Fall shopping, this year will be no different. For every day, a slouchy sweater and black leggings or skinny jeans is pretty much all you will see me in. I switch it up here and there with a skirt or a button down, but really it is the easiest (comfortable) look to put together. Especially given my new side kick.

Luckily with all of the brights for Fall and the coated or waxed jeans that are popping up, I can get something a bit different that will refresh this sometimes-boring assemble.

It is nice to see someone like Lauren Conrad, whose style I love, also get into my uniform...

I got this top ($128) and fun coated jeans ($178). I am completing lusting over these YSL cap toed slippers ($675). I have not seen this exact shape (not into them being too pointy) with a more wallet friendly price.

Is it weird to be shopping for Fall when it is 90 degrees out? Not sure, but I love looking to the new season and scouting out what is really going to work for my every day life when it comes to trends.

PS: Here is a link to some coated jeans I found for $61 on Wallis. Really loving this easy update.

Get the Look: Emma Stone

Don't you just want to be friends with Emma Stone? She seems like one of those girls that would be the fun, sarcastic girlfriend that always knows how to have a good time.
And on top of that, the girl loves to risk it on the red carpet. Hit or miss, you have to respect that.
This, I would say, is a huge hit...

Love it. And when it comes to jumpsuits, it can be a little tough to pull it off.

I think we could pull one off though, don't you think? Let's stick with all black in flattering cuts that would be perfect for a night out with lots of cocktails involved. Everyone is going to want to hang out with you, just like Emma, when you are wearing a jumpsuit.

From top right to left:
DKNY $345
Hugo Boss $695

Get the Look: Diane Kruger

My love for Diane and her style runs deep. The girl can do no wrong and did not disappoint at the Met Ball. This Prada, that I am sure was specially made just for her, is amazing. The feathers add drama, but the simply designed camisole top and easy styling makes it the perfect look.

I wish "Mrs. Prada" could make me this. But until then, I am loving these two options.

1. Theory $415
3. Anthropologie $198
4. One by Babs $425
5. Soixante Neuf $148

Though the drama of the feathers would not be as practical for say a wedding or black tie affair in our world, the addition of an open back to the dress adds just enough. I love these long pendant necklaces, as you can layer them while dressing up or down. Diane's Prada clutch was a bold choice, and something to not be afraid to do. This summer, nothing is "too much." Have you seen how much neon is around?

Met Ball 2012

By far my favorite red carpet event and I only have a quick minute to post, but could not miss posting today...

Let's start with my favorites...

Gisele looks incredible. The Givenchy is so chic and I love her slick hair.
Diane is my best overall. The girl is flawless and this is dramatic, yet effortless.
Emma Stone is her usual quirky self, but looks really pretty in this look.
The color of Emma's dress and the on trend peplum is just enough.
Lana is just enough glam and goth.
Allison is simple and chic in Ralph Lauren.
Such a great looking couple. Claire's hair is not my have, but they look so great together.
Camilla has that same glam and vixen look that I love.

As for the worst, it is more like that these people disappointed me the most. There were a lot of train wrecks, or people trying to hard to stand out. These ladies are just people that I love that I really wished would have picked something else.

Most of these speak for themselves, but Cameron may be one that you are surprised by. Is anyone else weirded out by the cut of this dress? She is so rocking and the cut somehow is unflattering. Lily Collins needs a new stylist like now! She is constantly in gowns that are too old for her and swallowing her whole. Kills me because she is adorable. Chloe, Heidi and Kristen literally could wear anything from any designer and these are their choices?! Such a waste. Heidi's dress looks like it came from the ale rack in the Prom section at Macy's. Elizabeth's dress, there are really no words.

There were so many looks to comment on. And I loved so many, but with limited time this is as far I can get today. What did I miss?

BAFTA & Grammy Fashion Re-cap

There were two awards shows on yesterday, the BAFTA's in the UK and the Grammy's. The BAFTA's had an amazing selection of fashion that was a great sneak peak into what we might be expecting at the Oscars later this month. The red carpet was so good, that I actually did not have enough material to do a worst dressed list. Here are the highlights..

Then there is the Grammy's. Which is usually a mixture of way too many rhinestones, a freak show, and grown women wearing prom dresses. The Grammy's are fun and I like that you see some people take some risks, but there are limits, people. My first three favorites were just as good coming as they were going.

If I could change anything, I would take away the high neck of Taylor's dress. Rihanna's Armani dress is amazing and the styling is perfect. Carrie is a most improved for me. She usually chooses over-embellished gowns that are styled too old for her. This is a gown, but she looks pretty and classy.

My other favorites...

This is probably the shortest worst dressed list I have had for the Grammy's, which possibly makes the Grammy's now something to actually watch for the fashion and not just the shock value. These ladies, though could use some serious help.

What were your hits and misses from last night?

Winter Fuzz

This is probably the most controversial post I have written, which is not hard when your main subjects are shopping and fun girlie topics.

What are your thoughts on fur? Is it a Do or a Don't?

It seems to be everywhere and I love how it is incorporated into these ladies looks...

I think the best thing we have going today is that faux looks and feels a lot like the real thing. Any of the above could be faux and to our novice eyes, the difference is hard to tell. Although, who am I kidding? These ladies like the real deal.

So to keep things PC around here (and more economical), let's do some shopping for the faux variety. Although, I am curious to know your opinion.

2. ASOS $128
3. Wyatt $198
4. ASOS $98 (obsessed with this one)
5. Juicy Couture $400
7. ASOS $76

Best part of shopping these looks now is that they are almost all on sale. I am debating between the ASOS  (4) and the Juicy toggle. Both are adorable and look warm, but chic.

Would you be sporting these if they were real? I am still undecided.

SAG Awards 2012: Best and Worst

I was not as excited about the SAGs last night as I was with the Golden globes. There were some amazing looks, some that were beautiful but forgettable and some that were just plain confusing.

Let's start with my faves...

Emily Blunt's dress was not a knockout, but the color made it stand out and looked beautiful on her.

I am obsessed with this Givenchy on Zoe Saldana. She went for it and it looks effortless, yet extremely elegant.

Amber Heard's hair is not cute, but the dress is edgy and the way that black should be done on the red carpet.

Elizabeth Chambers, do not know who you are, but I love your simple, classic Gucci dress.

So happy that Michelle Williams was the best dressed. I love her and this Valentino is stunning.

Julie Bowen made up for her Globes look by wearing this draping gown that works perfectly for her. Let's call her most improved.

Rose Byrne manages to pull off an original look in this jumpsuit. Only she could have pulled it off.

Kyra Sedgwick looks a-mazing in this red cut out dress. She kept the accessories to a minimum, which kept it chic.

My least favorites make me a little sad...

Wha-Waaaaa...
That's how these all make me feel.
Amber Riley is just all around too much, from the bow to the hair, wow.
Jenny Fischer is one of my favorites as Pam, but this dress belongs on someone twice her age, or no one.
Jenna Ushkowitz's dress has a terrible (old) pattern and the short/long hemline is tired.
Super sad about Shailene Woodley because she was so stunning at the Globes.

What were your best and worst of the night?

Red + Pink = Love

While Spring will be all about pastels, I think that winter needs to be punched up a bit. I love the color combination of red and pink and although it seems like more of a summer look, I think it is perfect to spice up winter.

These lovely ladies give us some inspiration...

When color blocking these two brights, it seems that separates work best. I can bet you already have something pink or red or both hanging in your closet. Now you just need something to help you pull it together.

1. DVF $225
 3. Labour of Love $212
 4. J Brand $374
 5. Nina Ricci $595
 6. Alice + Olivia $250
 7. Jenni Kayne $175
8. Forever 21 $28
 9. Forever 21 $28
 10. RED Valentino $695
  11. Christian Louboutin $625
 12. DVF $285
 13. Alice + Olivia $205
 14. Modcloth $15
 15. Equipment $208
 16. Michael Kors $195
17. Tory Burch $454

With this color story, I think the nude accessories work really well. Plus, I have a soft spot for patent in the winter.

How are you going to rock this look?

Weekend Wish: Here Comes Awards Season

Awards season officially kicked off with the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday. Certainly not one that I watch, but still like to check out the style. There were some really horrible dresses circa Prom '95, but also some cool, modern cut dresses that I hope to see more of this weekend at the Golden Globes.

Brights are still all over the place on the red carpet, and these two ladies took it a step farther with the addition of some lace. Both trends we saw on the runway for Fall and Spring of this year.

I love the mix of feminine fabrics and ruching with leather in Kristen Bell's dress. Nina Debrov killed it in this kelly green dress with delicate lace sleeves. The color is stunning and the accessories are perfect, nice and neutral.

If you followed me during awards season last year, you know I am pretty harsh when it comes to the styling. These ladies show us that less is more when your dress is so loud. And pretty, loose hair with natural makeup keeps the young, young.

My wish is that Sunday's Golden Globes (which REALLY kicks off awards season) has some looks that actually dazzle us a bit. Sometimes no one takes risks and the gowns get very pageant and boring. Would love to see all those beautiful pastel colors from the Spring '12 collections, as well as brights done in tasteful, modern ways.

Can't wait. Happy Weekend!

Weekend Wish: A Piece of Dame Taylor

While the world still mourns the loss of one of Old Hollywood's biggest legends, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Christies auction house has put together sales of all of her belongings. From fashion to jewelry to art and everything in between, you can browse through the collection online. I spent my rainy afternoon ogling over the pieces and needless to say the woman had great taste. I especially loved seeing the wedding bands of her and Richard Burton (above), the many gorgeous caftans she was famous for wearing and some of the lovely mod looks from the sixties. The best part is there is an online auction going on until December 17th, so you can bid if you are dying for a piece of Elizabeth.

My weekend wish is to channel some of this amazing glamour into my weekend, even just a touch.

I am taking a couple weeks off to spend with my family and relax. So you will not be hearing much from me until the new year. I wish everyone the best of holidays and thank you for the support over 2011. It has been so much fun writing this blog, hearing from my readers, and sharing all these fun ideas and inspiration. I hope to bring you even more in the coming year and I hope you continue to visit. I truly am so grateful for it.

12 Lovely Women, 1 Angry Woman

The weekend is over and the jury summons that I received a couple of weeks ago is staring at me. I have to report for duty tomorrow morning and not knowing my judicial fate is stressing me out. The thought of sitting in a room for eight hours waiting for my name to be called sounds like a great way to go insane.

So to keep me happy this morning (and stress free) I made my favorite tea and decided to pick my twelve favorite looks from the weekend. While I am the one angry woman, and will be even more so if I get assigned to a long trial, these twelve look chic and that have nothing to be angry about.

Starting with the best of the best, Kate B....

Miranda makes the list purely based on the best accessory ever, Flynn's blushed cheeks. I mean, do you die over that face or what?

How cute are Reese and Kate? Loving both of their dresses for an event in LA.

J Lo makes the cut twice, which is rare since her style is not always my taste. I love the day look with fur collar and tightly pulled bun. Perfect for the chilly weekend.

Hopefully I will be writing you tomorrow, or the next day, or the next, but who knows. My fate is in the hands of the Cook County Court. Better jury duty than jail, but doesn't it kind of feel like the same thing?
