Weekend Style: The Slip Dress

It might be the heat or the sudden nod to the nineties we are seeing all over the fashion blogs and mags, but the slip dress is kind of hot right now. Not that it ever wasn't, but whether from decades ago or last weekend, it's simplicity and nod to what is usually underneath your dress makes it ever the perfect dress to wear for a night out. How can you forget the "naked dress" from SATC or Cher's white DKNY? But even recently, this dress has been showing us that a stunning slip can be the perfect statement.

I wore a maxi version that felt sexy, even though I hid a watermelon belly underneath (1), but I envy anyone who gets to slip on one of these lightweight numbers for a summer night out. Just add strappy sandals, single bangle, and your favorite clutch.

1. Asos $76
2. Chelsea Flower $348, Love this style and the color
3. Winter Kate $115
4. Tibi $267, the perfect pink
5. Alice + Olivia $198 (other colors available, but the white is perfection)
6. Tibi $310
7. Asos $59
8. J. Crew $350

Happy Weekend!

Asos

I have written and posted a lot of looks from Asos and people are always loving them, but are wary of ordering from the site. It can be hard ordering from a new store online, so let me assure you that it is awesome. The quality of the pieces that were as little as forty dollars was actually pretty amazing. There is free expedited shipping with your order and returns are as easy as putting the box back in the mail with a card filled out. I have been so impressed with what they have and the price point that I have gone a bit mad.

Yesterday the baby slept way in, so I used the time to burn through some molla and get a ton of great stuff for a surprising little amount. I needed some more casual dresses and a couple of pieces for upcoming weddings. I hate spending money on maternity clothes, and while a couple of these are, most are not and I can wear afterwards as well.

2. Cami Maxi Dress (also in magenta) $58
4. Maternity Swim Suit in navy $42 (had to do it, the bikini is just kind of offensive at this point in public)

I had ordered this dress before and I am obsessed with it. Great print, colors and easily dressed up for a night out or down for running errands.

Here is to a great weekend and maybe you will fall in love with Asos as well.

A Few Things

My Dad is coming for a visit this weekend and I am so excited. Always fun to have grandpa around and a reason to cook lots of yummy stuff.

I see a trip to the pumpkin patch in our future. Even though an eight month old could care less.

I made a version of this soup last night that I will post about next week. I used white beans instead of potatoes. yum

I am such a sucker for off the shoulder dresses. Crushing on this Louis Vuitton look from Paris fashion week on Poppy Delevingne.

via: Vogue.com
A DKNY version ($335) is classic, this ASOS one is hot ($49), and this ASOS dress is flirty ($26).

I am loving this spread on Because I'm Addicted of design firm The Apartment. White walls and lots of color.

Obsessed with searching for coffee tables and console choices for the living room. This modern peekaboo piece is fun.

Still not sure of your presidential choice? This site helps you make your decision.

I hope you have a lovely Fall weekend.

Back to Black

Though black has never been far from fashion week, there seemed to much more of it this time around in New York, London, and Paris.

Crazy prints, neon, ornate brocade, sparkly pumps, all have their place, but sometimes it is nice to go black on black. Slimming, classic, and always with an edge, there is always a reason to go dark.

1. Tibi $345
2. Marc Jacobs $598
3. J. Crew $118
4. Rag & Bone $168
5. Asos $89
6. Asos $60
7. Asos $62
8. BB Dakota $102
10. Madewell $145
11. Topshop $96
12. Sabine $59
13. Marc Jacobs $34
14. Topshop $110
15. Madewell $168
16. Bauble bar $38
17. Report $99
18. J. Crew $89
19. All Saints $135
20. Christian Louboutin $1,495

I had to include those Loubs. They are kind of out of control. I love how every other piece could easily fit into your favorite look and your budget. Eyeing those Sabine booties, drapey BB Dakota jacket, and Bauble Bar statement necklace

Which are your favorite?

Girl Crush: Miroslava Duma

It has been a busy week and getting through all the images of all of the shows during fashion week is not happening. It is even a little hard seeing all the light pretty clothes when I am really looking forward to sweaters and boots. So far Alexander Wang, Victoria Victoria Beckham and Rebecca Minkoff are highlights and I hope to get through some more of the shows over the next week.

Let's face it though, seeing the street style rivals the shows themselves. While the Courtin-Clarins sisters are still my fave girls to see, Miroslava Duma has seriously won me over with her eclectic, pulled together, yet I-just-threw-this-on style.

I love her easiness and choices that appear to come straight from her own closet, not a stylist's. Miroslava also does not pick choices to make too bold of a statement, just to make a statement. She has fantastic style and I wish I could sit front row with this girl.

At the very least we can get inspired by some of her looks this week and channel a bit of what this girl has showed us on the streets of NYC.

1. Coach $198
2. ASOS $112
3. Baublebar $300
4. Marc Jacobs $298
5. Baublebar $49
6. J. Crew $175
7. Madewell $118
8. J. Crew $95
10. Baublebar $36
11. TopShop $58

Happy NYFW.

A Little Sweetness

I am really feeling the love from everyone after yesterday's post. Thank you so much for the support and well wishes. The little babe is loving the attention, I can tell from all the extra kicks today.

Something else that gets me excited are the Courtin-Clarins girls. These ladies are always crushing it and I worship their put-together, yet bohemian style.

I am especially loving their mary janes at a recent Louis Vuitton opening. The black and white are freaking amazing. That is the best way to describe them, even though it is not very eloquent.

And while you can purchase them at Louis Vuitton, the price tag might be a bit much. Ok, a lot. Although I am keeping them on my wish list.

There are a few choices out there that are much more closer to earth, and possibly your closet.

1. Wide bow with platform Miu Miu $540
2. T-strap mary janes Tibi $436
3. Tap shoes Pour La Victoire $107
4. Platform peep toe mary janes Sam Edelman $60
5. Metallic pump ASOS $64

Kind of dying over the flats, they look just like the tap shoes I sported 20 years ago. So sweet.

Having Fun in Pleats

I had so much fun in my Parker pleated dress this weekend. It was fun to dance in, was beyond comfortable and had a great silhouette.

I recently have tried on quite a few pleated skirts as well and have seen quite a few fashionable ladies sporting them in many different ways.

I like that the skirts can be varying lengths, color is a plus and you can go from prim and proper to downtown chic pretty quick. The different ways these ladies are sporting them just shows their versatility.

Wear with the t-shirt tucked in for drinks, a blazer to work, your favorite booties for a night out, or with flats for a weekend stroll. They even look great with tights, which we know we will be starting to break out in the next month or two.

Plus, they are just a fun style that looks great when walking or should I say strutting.
1. ASOS $73
3. Topshop $90
8. A.L.C. $425

Multi-Colored, Multi-Sized Horizontal Stripes Actually a Do

During fashion week, there was a lot of coverage of what all the ladies lucky enough to be attending the shows were sporting all over town. For some reason, I could not get this image out of my head.

via vogue.com
This girl might be the only person on the planet that can pull this look off. With her perfectly unstyled, a bit too long hair and lithe figure perfect for lots of horizontal stripes, she somehow makes it work perfectly with classic black pumps and a simple shoulder bag.

The fun colors and varying widths of the stripes is what I love about the dress, even though I probably would not be able to wear it with such ease. It does work well though as inspiration. So I did some shopping...

1. Fendi from Farfetch $399
2. Marc by Marc Jacobs from Shopbop $350
3. See by Chloe at Saks $370
4. Reiss $170
5. ASOS $31 (total Prada knockoff, but price tag is so much lighter!)
6. Thakoon at Net-a-Porter $1450
7. French Connection From Bloomingdales $98
8. Oasis from ASOS $104

Instant Update from Kate

I thought I would start the week with a little style inspiration. Loving this casual, but pulled together look from Kate.

via vogue.com
Sometimes it is just as easy to throw on a skirt with your favorite sweater and loafers as it is to put on jeans. This was taken in an airport, by the way, which we know is not exactly the chicest place on earth. Way to class the place up, Kate.

The long pendent necklaces she paired with her basic sweater is what drew me most to this look. We all have a few sweaters we love for Fall and piling on a couple extra long necklaces instantly takes that basic piece to something special.

Best part is that there are lot of options at many price points to add to your jewelry box.

1. Marcia Moran from Endless $270
2. ASOS $27
3. ASOS $10
4. CC Skye from Singer22 $110
5. ASOS $17
6. Cara from Nordstrom $34
7. ASOS $26

Back to School Satchel

I know it is a tad early to start thinking about Fall, but really it is never too early to start shopping for it. We all want some fresh pieces to bring us into the cooler weather, sweater season and the general "Back to School" mentality.

Long have I coveted for a Proenza Schouler PS1 satchel. It comes in a few different sizes and endless color options. It is my current dream bag and I am hoping I get all A's next semester so I can have one. Or at least save my pennies to splurge on one.

And though the PS1 is quite pricey, there are many options out there to help us next season. Whether headed back to school, back to work, or back to cold weather, you always want some freshly sharpened pencils and a new accessory to soften the blow of more work and less play.

1. Proenza Shouler PS1 Medium leather satchel at Net-A-Porter $1595
2. Leather satchel with lock from Topshop $110
3. Miu Miu small leather satchel at Net-A-Porter $1350
4. Black leather satchel at ASOS $120 (there were a lot of great styles for great prices here)
5. Kristen round satchel from Coach $698

7. Giani Bernini grey satchel at Macy's $88
8. Miss Gustto yellow satchel at Bluefly $75
9. Mulberry Alexa satchel at Net-A-Porter $1200
10. Lane Line satchel at Anthropologie $278
11. Susan Farber Derby crossbody satchel at Nordstrom $183
12. Bridgette satchel from French Connection $90

Black and White All Over

I posted a picture of this gem of a vintage clutch that was an amazing find for a serious steal. This rarely happens, but sometimes you just stumble across a piece that can be incorporated so well into your wardrobe and you wonder how you ever lived without it. Having no guilt from the purchase also feels pretty freaking great.

Many of the August issues of my favorite mags were showing black and white accessories for Fall and I thought I would take a look around for similar finds to the above. How cute would these be with a chunky cable knit and high waisted bell bottom jeans? Yes, the retro seventies trends are turning up for fall and I have to say it is great. Breezy, college prep mixed with nights at Studio 54. Sign me up!

1. Burberry leather trimmed cotton tote at Net-A-Porter $1395
2. Meredith Wendell Bucket leather and canvas shoulder bag at Net-A-Porter $795
3. Rebecca Minkoff linen and patent Morning After Clutch at Revolve Clothing $225

Pleats + Length + Skirt = Love

Long pleated maxi skirts and vintage-inspired jewelry at a steal sounds like the perfect summer look. Best part of these comfortable, soft skirts is that you can pair with your favorite cotton tank or tee so you always feel at ease. Whether real vintage or remakes, like those below, wearing an accessory that feels like it has a story is always fun.

1. Long pleated skirt in rust by Tibi at Shopbop $297
2. Linked swirl earring by Topshop $10
3. Maxi Desert skirt by Rag & Bone $495
4. Shannon printed maxi skirt by Alice & Olivia at Net-a-Porter $485
5. Bell engraved drop earrings by Topshop $15
6. Chiffon pleated maxi skirt from ASOS $94
7. Snake stretch bracelet by Topshop $28
8. Rectangle stretch cuff by Topshop $25
9. Slinky segment metal rope by Topshop $30
10. Long skirt by Zara $89

I am obsessed with the Alice & Olivia and am thinking that it has to join my wardrobe. It is what made me want to shop this look today. It would be so perfect with the Topshop cuff, white tank, and Capri sandals.  Which one is your favorite?
