The Perfect Fall Wardrobe

There are the things you buy and then there are the things you wear.
You would think we would know what we really wear by now, but alas no. There are always those pieces that sit after one wear, forgotten in the depths of your closet.
So as we start the new season, let's discuss the pieces you actually will wear.
Too many times to count.
These pieces flawlessly all fit together and will with the staples already in your wardrobe.

1. The Sweater Dress: Cozy, but chic. They look great with boots or sneaks. This one is great too.
2. The Draped Leather Jacket: Gives an edge to even the most femme outfit. This faux version too.
3. The Cashmere Tee: I own this and want it in every color. Looks great with pants, jeans, skirts, even sweats.
4. The Soft Skinny: Really we want to be wearing leggings, but when you have to wear jeans these are the best.
5. The Crossbody: You need something that will hold all of your things and in a great color.
6. The Pull On Pant: Again, it is like sweats but you can get away with them at dinner or a meeting.
7. The Leather Sneaker: They can be worn with absolutely anything, even a skirt or dress.
8. The Suede Skirt: Fall is all about texture and this skirt would get a lot of play. A longer version too.
9. The Plaid Flannel: This is the softest fabric that drapes perfectly so you can wear with anything.
10. The Knit Blazer: I always own this and want it in every color. It goes with EVERYTHING and is cozy, but refined.
11. The Mule Loafer: They are a huge investment, but the ultimate slide on shoe. I also love these and these with less sticker shock.

Fall Essentials

Thank you so much to everyone for all the positive response to the new Styling Services. Helping all of you be happy shoppers and gorgeously dressed gives me more satisfaction than you know. Keep the emails coming (erin@imperfectpolish.com)!

As I start to assess my own closet for the coming season, it is nice to see my old fav orites hanging in there ready to be worn. In Fall and Winter I tend to wear a bit of uniform, switched up by a few trendier pieces of the moment. Here is what I gravitate towards Fall after Fall.

1. A long plaid shirt that can be worn tucked into super flared jeans or as a tunic over skinny jeans is such a mainstay for me. Madewell $74
2. Moto boots are an investment piece, but mine have lasted for three years and I still wear them every other day once the weather gets cool. Jimmy Choo $1150
3. A Burberry trench is such an investment piece that you can feel confident will last season after season. This is on sale $798
4. I have this Asos sweater dress in a few colors and will be ordering more this year. At $24 (on sale) you cannot go wrong.
5. I raved about these leggings last year and they still are the best I have found. Spanx $68
6. Lightweight sweaters that can be layered over tees, under blazers, and are soft enough for snuggling on the couch with the kids from J. Crew. Other colors available. $79
7. I buy these J. Crew vintage cotton tees in bulk. They come in so many colors and are on sale right now. $24
8. Minnetonka moccasins feel like slippers and go with everything. $42
9. This is the updated version of the Alexander Wang crossbody bag I bought a few years ago. Fall always makes me go a little edgier. $795

Work Wardrobe

I have not worked in a professional setting for quite sometime, so work day essentials are not on my radar. Though while shopping, I can't help but get a bit nostalgic for what I might be wearing to the office these days. I was always about classic, tailored pieces that could be mix and matched easily. Everything in neutral colors that looked crisp with a few tasteful pops of color in the seasons current favorites. Though I may not be in need of a work wardrobe, I have plenty of friends who do (one in particular, you know who you are) and put together what I would be stocking up on for now and this Fall. Just mix in your favorite (and most comfortable) pumps, statement necklace, slick watch, studs, and opaque black tights for the colder weather.

Dresses: 1. J. Crew / 2. DVF / 3. Madewell / 4. Tory Burch
Jackets: 5. Theory / 6. Two Penny Blue / 7. Loft
Skirts: 8. J. Crew / 9. J. Crew / 10. Loft
Pants: 11. J. Crew / 12. J. Crew / 13. Loft (on sale)
Sweaters: 14. J. Crew / 15. J. Crew / 16. J. Crew (all available in many colors)
Tops: 17. Joie / 18. J. Crew / 19. J. Crew

Many of these pieces can be mixed in with your every day or evening wear, which is a huge bonus. Some of the pieces are bigger investments, but when it comes to work wear you need it most days so it will be worth it. If anything a great pair of black pants, a snug but flattering sweater, a blazer, and a white shirt like the one above is a great start.

And just to show you how versatile these pieces can be, here are just a few of the ways you can mix and match.
And let's just pretend you closed the deal of a lifetime, this bag would be quite the statement at the office. #treatyourself
