Time for Spring Breaking

Are you off somewhere warm? Hope so.
I am a little late on my Spring Break packing post as I know that some of you might already be on yours or headed out of town, but my packing does not start until next week so here I am. Since the kids stuff takes up at least half of our packing space, I like to keep things light and coordinated. Makes it easy to not only pack, but to pick what to wear once you are there.  Here is what I am going to bring (either the exact or close match to) this year...

1. A straw bag that doesn't mind a little sand, but fits everything. Hat Attack $95
2. My fave mineral sunscreen powder now comes in spf 50. It is waterproof and gives you a nice even coverage. Sunscience $64 (lasts forever)
3. Worship these frames from Warby Parker $95
4. A actual packable hat that can get squished in your bag. J. Crew $34
5. Soft PJs that wash well, look nice, and are ok for your in laws to see you in. J. Crew $58
6. This suit looks great with cut off shorts and flips. Total 90s throwback. J. Crew $88 (many colors)
7. A breezy and sweet cover up. J. Crew $69

(Think I have enough J. Crew going on? Geez. But kind of obsessed with everything there lately and there seems to be a sale every day.)

These tops...
From Left:
A gauzey, boho blouse with tassels that goes with everything. BB Dakota $85
Remember when tanks had shelf bras in them in the early 00s? Yea, J. Crew is making them again. $24
My love for Cloth & Stone runs deep, and this coral button down is so soft and perfect. $88
A forgiving, but sweet ruffle top for big dinners out. d.Ra $84

All the tops can be worn with each of these shorts...
1. Easily the best pair of lace shorts I have bought. Loft $59 (other colors available)
2. A sweet pair of floral drawstring shorts. Minkpink $59
3. My go to J. Crew cut offs. $79
4. Who doesn't love a skort? And I love the print/woven material. Cupcakes & Cashmere $100

Dresses for different occasions...
I am a sucker for Parker and I love this silhouette. $265
This dress could go from the beach straight to dinner. Loft $79 + 25% off today
A little ballet nod in a super flattering cut. Susana Monaco $170 (yellow also, $119)

I swear by the three pairs of shoes rule. All you need...
1. A wedge that matches everything when you want a lift. Loeffler Randall $275
2. A flip flop that can hang by the pool or be paired with a dress later. J. Crew $50 (also in back)
3. A white sneaker for everywhere else. Adidas $74 (check out the sizing notes when ordering)

Anything you cannot leave behind? Would love to hear.
Happy Travels!

Shorty Swing My Way

There is something so easy about a pair of patterned shorts and a t-shirt for the summer. Or maybe even a boyfriend-style white button to dress it up a bit more. Add wedges or your favorite heels that make your legs look great and that necklace you cannot seem to live without. There are so many fun patterns this Spring to choose from. I am looking only in the elastic waist band variety, but want all of these in a line up in my closet.

1. An embroidered ethnic pair from Zara $89
2. Leafy green chic by Joie $128
3. Sequin and sparkly amazing-ness by DVF $265
4. Soft leopard from Haute Hippie $195
5. Silky ikat by Joie $178
6.Abstract black and white from Zara $39
7. Preppy anchors from J. Crew $54
8. Watercolor floral from Gap $39 (also available in maternity)
9. Techno floral by Clover Canyon $198

Mixing it up

No girl mixes prints as well as this girl....

Flawless Olivia Palmero just gets it right every single time.

Mixing prints is hard to do with separates. You have to be daring and have a fantastic sense of color, scale, and proportion. Something I wish I had a bit more of. Luckily, many designers are doing the hard work for us and putting together pieces with multiple prints.

I am in LOVE with this one from ASOS. I worship the granny-esque floral and bright prints, with the modern, edgy design of the dress.

ASOS $215

I found some other, albeit extreme, choices that could be fun on their own or mixed with basic pieces in your closet.
1. Tahiti $565
2. Clover Canyon $185
3. Sabine $46
4. Free People $69
5. ModCloth $107
6. Elie Tahari $398
7. BCBG $458

Not exactly a mixed print, but a loud statement none the less, these Brian Atwood shoes would be the perfect print to mix in to your favorite look. WORSHIP them.

Brian Atwood $1,065

So how daring are you? I bet you have some pieces to mix up in your closet right now....

Red and Beige All Over

This color combination has been all over Pinterest and I am loving the bright red with the neutral beige.

The addition of a little pink clutch and a stack of silver bangles is kind of genius.

While I cold not find these exact pieces, I found a few that could complete the look for us.

1. Audrey Long $198
3. DKNY $195
4. Arden B $44
5. Mother $147 (sale)
6. Carven $360
7. Marc Jacobs $560
8. Milly $235
9. ASOS $14
11. Low Luv by Erin Wasson $59

Weekend Wish

It is time to lay in the sun and soak up some Vitamin D. And although I will be coated in SPF 60, my wish is that I still get a slight bronze.

How I miss the days of slathering on the oil and baking to a medium brown.

Getting older takes the fun out of it a bit, but with these summer essentials I can still enjoy my time in the sun.

There is something about summer that brings out my girlie side. Wearing a super femme bikini, hot pink cut offs, and sipping a cold can of sparkling blanc de blanc out of a fuchsia can sounds glorious. The bubbles will be even greater as I giggle through funny girl, Tina Fey's, new book Bossypants.

I hope you have a great weekend and find some time in the sunshine.

2. BCBGeneration basket weave clutch
3. Top Shop Mexicana Shift Dress
4. Tory Burch Tunic
5. Kenny Guadalajara shorts
6. Sur La Table Molcajete for your favorite guacamole recipe
7. Colorful and fun Steve Madden sandals

10. My Pork Tacos Recipe

I have a really special place in my heart for Cinco de Mayo because I went to college in Tucson, Arizona. What I learned there was that this holiday is a great celebration of family, friends, food, and culture. With an emphasis on fun, some of my favorite memories of college were Cinco de Mayo parties with lots of cold Pacificos, brightly colored outfits, and sing-a-longs with the mariachi band. With this Mexican holiday just two weeks away, I wanted to pull some inspiration of what to wear and how to celebrate. Whether you plan on attending a lively celebration or trying the pork taco recipe at home, I promise that this is always a holiday that anyone can get in the spirit of

A Short Story

Although the temperatures may not reflect that shorts are soon to be part of your every day wear, it is never too early to start shopping. Separates and shorts have been a year round staple for many girls about town. Worn with tights, you can easily bring shorts into fall and winter. I am looking forward to the warm weather, ditching the tights, and getting comfortable. Shorts can be tricky since too short is not a good look on anyone, too long can be matronly, and you always want to wear something flattering. The key is to think of the shoes you will be wearing, how much leg you want (or should) show, and check yourself out from all angles. If you look great, feel comfortable, and know that these shorts will get some wear, then I think you just found your new favorite piece for spring. I found these denim bloomers at Zara and loved their roomy feel without adding bulk to my bottom half. Time to start your search, here is a head start.

High Waisted Silk shorts from Top Shop
Lingerie Inspired Shorts from Top Shop
Broken-In Boyfriend Chino Shorts from J Crew
Polka dot Skort from Free People
Slouchy Track Shorts by 3.1 Phillip Lim
Drapey Black Sequin Shorts from the Gap
Washed Silk cargo Shorts from Marc by Marc Jacobs
Silk Tap Short by A.L.C.
