Let's Get Festive

It seems like each day brings a new way to celebrate the season. Cinnamon spiked coffees, cookie exchanges, kids making ornaments, houses twinkling with lights, lots of sparkling cocktails. Man, it is the best.  The exhaustion can be real, so pace yourselves, friends. But one thing that can make it all even more fun, is a festive addition to your closet. Even just a piece or two that screams holiday gets you more excited for the event, plus makes getting dressed for them that much easier. So hear are some fun options that can wear with your other faves for a bright and merry December.

Formal Affair

Sometimes the invitation says black tie and a gown is necessary. While I am advocate for the formal short dress, there is something about wearing an elegant long dress that makes an event extra special. With the holiday party season and winter weddings creeping up on the calendar, all of the options can be overwhelming. Here are my favorites that would work for anyone, really...

1. So gorgeous. My fave Anthropologie $348 / 2. A sophisticated way to do sparkle Parker $572 / 3. Fun take on a strapless peplum BCBG $239 / 4. The draping and color are gorgeous BCBG $498

5. A classic column in front, open in back Alice + Olivia $396 / 6. The beading and draping is beautiful BCBG $448 / 7. Love a graphic black and white BCBG $368 / 8. Channeling Princess Kate BHLDN $260 (other colors)

9. The red and gold is a great combo Asos $521 / 10. Gorgeous draping Zimmerman $350 (other colors) / 11. I love a long sleeve and the 70s vibe Halston $495 / 12. Totally obsessed with this. Satin detail on crepe. Asos $295

13. This actually looks comfortable Zimmerman $332 (other colors) / 14. If you are going for bling, this has a great deco feel Aiden Mattox $420 / 15. Stunning emerald color Halston $237 / 16. Cobalt is so pretty and love it with pleats and a draped sleeve Asos $161

Shorty Swing My Way

There is something so easy about a pair of patterned shorts and a t-shirt for the summer. Or maybe even a boyfriend-style white button to dress it up a bit more. Add wedges or your favorite heels that make your legs look great and that necklace you cannot seem to live without. There are so many fun patterns this Spring to choose from. I am looking only in the elastic waist band variety, but want all of these in a line up in my closet.

1. An embroidered ethnic pair from Zara $89
2. Leafy green chic by Joie $128
3. Sequin and sparkly amazing-ness by DVF $265
4. Soft leopard from Haute Hippie $195
5. Silky ikat by Joie $178
6.Abstract black and white from Zara $39
7. Preppy anchors from J. Crew $54
8. Watercolor floral from Gap $39 (also available in maternity)
9. Techno floral by Clover Canyon $198

Grown Up Back to School

This time of year I get a bit jealous of kids going back to school. Though it was always sad to have summer over, the anticipation of a new year and the newness of your next grade was always fun. I really loved high school and would do it all over again. I would love to repeat more so that I could enjoy it even more and not worry about that nonsense that keeps you from truly enjoying the present.

So at the risk of being totally cliche and posting about Back to School looks, I really just found some fun pieces to bring us back. Just a little.

Striped notepads from Kate Spade ($12)
Warby Parker ($95) specs (wish I never got Lasik, so I could have these)
Minty Nike running shoes ($153)
Sequin running shorts from TopShop ($120)
The lovely Garance Dore for Kate Spade iPhone cover ($40)
Coated sleeved fitted denim jacket by J Brand ($260)
Illustrated city calendar from Anthropologie ($24)
White rubber and gold watch from eWatches ($139)
