It seems like each day brings a new way to celebrate the season. Cinnamon spiked coffees, cookie exchanges, kids making ornaments, houses twinkling with lights, lots of sparkling cocktails. Man, it is the best.  The exhaustion can be real, so pace yourselves, friends. But one thing that can make it all even more fun, is a festive addition to your closet. Even just a piece or two that screams holiday gets you more excited for the event, plus makes getting dressed for them that much easier. Currently Coveting: Texture & Print

With the falling temperatures there is always the hope that soft, cozy fabrics will comfort us. And that the cheer of a fun print will perk us up on a chilly day. Hence, why brands get smart and turn it up this time of year in those departments. Which I will never complain about. With the addition of this, this, and this in my closet, I am really only hungry for more. Loving these all so much and thinking that you might too.

1. I want these, but I also LOVE these Vejas too / 2. A soft velvet tank to layer under a jacket with jeans (comes in other colors)  / 3. A swingy shirt dress that will look put together, but feel like pajamas (comes in other prints) / 4. I love the tie waist of this classic wool coat (comes in other colors)  / 5. A knit jumpsuit? OBSESSED / 6. A slouchy, soft suede bag / 7. Worship a block heel right now and this emerald color is beautiful (comes in other colors too) / 8.  This velvet dress has beautiful details and would slay at a holiday party / 9. Soft jeans with a kick / 10. A cozy sweater dress that is also comfy / 11. The perfect plaid shirt for layering or all on its pretty lonesome / 12. Knit camo with a bit of pink / 13. Gorgeous drivers that will honestly look good with anything

Current Trend: Velvet

Velvet was once what holiday dress nightmares were made of when we were children of the 80s. Then two piece candy colored hoodie sweatsuits we sported with pride absolutely everywhere
(yes, that happened for the younger readers. Hi!)

But now it is chic and and applied in so many beautiful ways. The soft fabric drapes like a dream, has a weight that makes it feel grown up and dressy, but the kicker is that it feels like pajamas.
Luxy, very special pajamas.

From dressed up to down, velvet is feeling extra fresh this season.

1. A swingy, easy dress (this one is cute too) / 2. Worship this Gucci bag (this one is less) / 3. The cutest sweatshirt (or this one in black) / 4. Skinny jeans on sale / 5. Ladylike leopard mules / 6. A comfy and cute block heel pump / 7. 90s vibe slip dress, pair with a tee underneath to dress down / 8. A dramatic top  / 9. High waist pants that also come in black  / 10. Studded mule greatness / 11. Obsessed with these cropped wide leg pants / 12. Perfect dress for that winter wedding or gala / 13. A flirty party skirt / 14.  Heart eyes for bow Valentinos (these and these are less) / 15. The combo of velvet and faux fur is so great in this vest / 16. Own these in pink and love them / 17. A chic black bomber (or love this too)

Statement Sofa

Some of the spaces that I have been most inspired by lately have been full of white walls and brightly colored sofas. White walls can be kind of boring, but really it helps anchor anything you want to do to the room over time. And a sofa that makes a color statement is so fun and surprising.

I have a bright navy sofa in my basement that I love so so much. There are so many great options out there now as home decorators are taking more risks to lovely rewards.

1. I was floored when I saw this green number at Ikea. It is magic. $999
 2. Not quite pink, not quite red, this is such a beautiful shape and color. Deepa Gurnani $1998
3. This hot pink love seat would be fun in an entry or bedroom. Pottery Barn Teen $799
4. I love modern sofas mixed into traditional design. This yellow one would be fantastic. Hayneedle $919
5. Somehow this sofa has a clean modern feel, while also being feminine. This soft mint is so great. West Elm $899
6. A velvet chesterfield is kind of a dream of mine. Rowan Reed $2495

Fashion Flashback with Gwyneth

My room in high school, much like every other teenage girl on the planet, had a bulletin board with current boy band crushes, notes from friends, and fantasy fashion from the red carpet. I cannot recall many of the looks from those ripped out pages from magazines, except for one.

This was when Gwyneth was still a young ingenue, attending the 1996 VMAs in a Gucci suit designed by the incomparable Tom Ford. There was something about this look that I gravitated to, and honestly still do. The way her shirt is open, but not in a vulgar way, and looks like she borrowed it from Brad is genius. Her hair looks effortless and so does her make up. Try to ignore the shoes.

And then there is the velvet suit. Velvet can go down such a bad road, especially at this time period. The height of crushed velvet, yikes. But here it comes off a bit understated, but the color is rich and vibrant.

I have loved velvet ever sense. But purely in the tailored pants and jacket capacity. Even today, seventeen years later (OMG!), I want this suit or at least to look like Gwynie here. Luckily there are some great options in updated cropped skinnies and interestingly cut jackets.

1. BDG $29 (on sale)
2. Siwy $154
3. J. Crew $80 (on sale, also comes in a pretty blush)
4. James Jeans $168
5. J. Crew $99 (on sale, comes in other colors)
6. Toi et Moi $129
7. Unconditional $395
8. Johan Earl $57

That ombre jacket is a-mazing. I also can't get over that fun update to a flight jacket. As if Ms. Paltrow could influence me anymore, she is repeating my love from her from so long ago. Ugh. I love her, and I hate her.
