Bringing Back the 00s: The Matched Set

Don't be fooled by the rocks that I got. I'm still,  I'm still...

Yep, we are talking juicy suits and cool new updates today. Ever thought you would see the day? Or maybe you have been waiting with baited breath to take out that set you have been hoarding for the last ten years? Now is the time, lady.

So this was bound to happen. The return of the juicy (esque)suit. First of all, we are all spending way more on athleisure than real clothes these days. Wearing joggers to dinner is a real thing (and when styled right, cute) and there is nothing as comfy as that velour masterpiece that dominated the 90s.

Juicy has updated their classic suit a bit and there are plenty of other matched sets that might have a more 00s vibe for those that cannot go down that road. All I know is that the matching sweatsuit is exactly what I want to wear at home and on the go (within reason of course people) all winter long.

From Left: The classic Juicy in navy with updated jogger Nordstrom (top & bottom), Kohl's (top & bottom) / Another velour beauty that has blonde or brunette embroidered on the front. Brunette or Blonde Pants too / A throwback Nike top and bottom that is so good / This is a super soft terry top and bottom from Make + Model

From Left: Even preppy J. Crew can get in on this action. Top and bottom / Gap has a great velvet version that is on sale. top and bottom / Feel 18 again in this varsity style sweatshirt and classic pants from Juicy / And cool girl Everyone has a French terry version with a great boxy sweatshirt and the perfect jogger.

And ps: Amazon has versions for the littles. You bet I ordered one of those!

New Suit

Though I am not ready to give up the bikini entirely, chasing after two small people at the pool has made for many almost wardrobe malfunctions that no one needs to see. So a new suit with less string and more coverage is a necessity and actually on trend.

I might try for a new two piece that has the ability to move with with me and not away from me. One a little sassy and the other a little sporty.

Left: L Space Top $73 Bottom  $66 / Right: Bikyni Top & Bottom $50 each

I have not ventured into one piece territory since middle school, but I am loving the look and the fact you can throw on a pair of shorts or skirt and head out the door.

A little black suit sounds about right. Feels very French Riviera to me.

1. Size up in this great v neck from  J. Crew $118 / 2. I love the simplicity of this one Gap $59 / 3. This is the throwback suit that you probably owned in the 90s. Love J. Crew $88 (on sale & comes in tons of colors)

Something in a blue or gray would be fun too.

1. A classic tank in a fun color  Solid & Striped $148 / 2. The blocking of this suit would be so flattering Tory Burch $225 / 3. This is one of my favorites Marc Jacobs $148 / 4. Great suit if you like to show off some leg, but not your tummy L Space $132

Stripes and patterns can make it even more fun and even flattering.

1. Another one of my top faves  J. Crew $98 (on sale and lots of color options) / 2. Gingham is so hot right now Solid & Striped $158 / 3. Kind of 80s/beetlejuice, and I like it Wildfox $150 / 4. The banding on this is so flattering Nanette Lepore $148

And I am always a sucker for a little ruffle action.
1. This has a nice low back too Shoshanna $138 / 2. A little retro and I bet comfortable Toni Praver $149 / 3. The peplum comes on and off and it comes with straps. Zinke $136

You think you might take the one piece plunge? Join me! ha

Fashion Flashback with Gwyneth

My room in high school, much like every other teenage girl on the planet, had a bulletin board with current boy band crushes, notes from friends, and fantasy fashion from the red carpet. I cannot recall many of the looks from those ripped out pages from magazines, except for one.

This was when Gwyneth was still a young ingenue, attending the 1996 VMAs in a Gucci suit designed by the incomparable Tom Ford. There was something about this look that I gravitated to, and honestly still do. The way her shirt is open, but not in a vulgar way, and looks like she borrowed it from Brad is genius. Her hair looks effortless and so does her make up. Try to ignore the shoes.

And then there is the velvet suit. Velvet can go down such a bad road, especially at this time period. The height of crushed velvet, yikes. But here it comes off a bit understated, but the color is rich and vibrant.

I have loved velvet ever sense. But purely in the tailored pants and jacket capacity. Even today, seventeen years later (OMG!), I want this suit or at least to look like Gwynie here. Luckily there are some great options in updated cropped skinnies and interestingly cut jackets.

1. BDG $29 (on sale)
2. Siwy $154
3. J. Crew $80 (on sale, also comes in a pretty blush)
4. James Jeans $168
5. J. Crew $99 (on sale, comes in other colors)
6. Toi et Moi $129
7. Unconditional $395
8. Johan Earl $57

That ombre jacket is a-mazing. I also can't get over that fun update to a flight jacket. As if Ms. Paltrow could influence me anymore, she is repeating my love from her from so long ago. Ugh. I love her, and I hate her.
