Modern Rustic Table Setting

Though I am not hosting a Thanksgiving myself this year, I could not help but to put together my dream table. I am feeling a modern rustic vibe. Black, white, wood, marble, and copper. Simple, yet unexpected. Maybe this will give you some good inspiration for your table this year.

Wedding Season

These days there is not a whole lot of dressing up happening. I like to get it together for date night, but it certainly does not involve a cocktail dress. So for some of us, that wedding invitation or fundraising party are the best excuses to do a little shopping and put a unique and refined look together. And though my wedding wardrobe for this weekend (can't wait!) includes a bridesmaid dress, these are the looks that would look so great for your Summer line up.

For a more modern feel...
Dress: Blessed are the Meek $230 / Bag: Rebecca Minkoff $95 / Shoes: Alive + Olivia $325

I am obsessed with the zipper lined envelope clutch. Comes in a bunch of colors too!

This could work for any wedding, even black tie...
Dress: Notte by Marchesa $340 (on sale) / Bag: Santi $145 / Shoes: Sam Edelman $109

When the dress code is more casual...
Dress: Parker $192 (on sale) / Bag: Oliveve $130 / Shoes: Vince $395

Love a pop in a shoe...
Dress: Black Halo $390 / Bag: Inge Christopher $178  / Shoes: Pour la Victoire $195

Can't stop thinking about this look...
Dress: Asos $235 / Shoes: L.K. Bennet $395 / Bag: Michael Kors $138 (on sale)

Because pink is always a great idea and this embroidery, love...
Dress: Asos $172 / Bag: Ted Baker $170 (obsessed) / Shoes: BCBG $325

Love a little preppy look...
Dress: Asos $118 / Bag: Lauren Merkin $175 / Shoes: Stuart Weitzman $398

Love all these so much. Any of them your favorite?

Affordable Lighting Options

Lighting can be one of those changes that completely changes an entire space. The problem is that it can also be one of the largest investments in a space. I have been helping people not only with fashion styling services, but also home styling lately, (email me!) and most people just need a few pieces to tie their rooms together. Lighting options are usually one of my first suggestions. In an effort to keep everyone's budget in tact, I have rounded up some of the best lighting options that would be wonderful in so many rooms.

1. This vintage lantern is so fun. Chairish $395
2. A client I helped just hung this above her dining table and it is stunning. Pottery Barn $399
3. A pair of these over an island would be so chic. Or down a hallway. Shades of Light $159
4. Beautiful shaped lantern. Shades of Light $279
5. Such a different take on the rustic look in this metal pendant. Lulu & Georgia $207
6. I have these lining my hallway. Pottery Barn $169
7. I am such a sucker for a lantern. This one has a vintage look without the huge price tag. Pottery Barn $399
8. This would look so great above a rustic farmer's table. Pottery Barn $799

9. It is hard to find a quality chandelier for under one thousand, this has a retro feel I love. West Elm $899
10. This is such a classic look and the mixed metals is fun. West Elm $319
11. Love the shape of this mid century vintage chandelier. Chairish $396
12. Worship the shape and the lined shade. Also comes in navy and gray. Shades of Light $319
13. The mix of wood and metal along with the shape makes this such a statement. Pottery Barn $399

Moody Florals

There is something so sophisticated and a little dark about floral on black. Takes away a bit of the sweetness and gives it just enough edge to pull off in the colder months. It looks great in a dress, top or skirt and best topped with a leather jacket or that green anorak. I have had my eye on this dress as you can see from my other posts. My wardrobe has felt a bit uninspired and these prints are such a reflection of my mode going into Fall.

1. Great for work or play, this Club Monaco is currently in my cart $229
2. Romantic and moody paired perfect with your have jeans. Joie $258
3. This midi pencil skirt would be so chic for the office with a white button down. Asos $47
4. A classic tea dress works for the office and look perfect topped with a denim jacket or blazer.  French Connection $155
5. This clutch would be a fun touch for a night out. Rebecca Minkoff $95
6. A sweet little dress by BB Dakota $90
7. This floral dress would even work during the holidays. Ted Baker $244
8. This dress is so pretty and delicate. Jill Stuart $478
9. Obsessed with this romper. Pair with tights and booties for the winter. Blue Life $136

Jail Birdies

Sooo having a moment with black and white stripes right now. In a top, a dress, coat, all of it. Classic, yet fun, and surprisingly flattering. Here are some cute options to sport them.

1. This Topshop dress is great year round. $45 (on sale)
2. This top would look great over skinnies. PPLA $35
3. This comfy shift has an exposed zipper in the back. Painted Threads $35
4. This sweater dress looks comfy for the cold weather. Would look great with brown boots.  Asos $47
5. This knit sweater dress would be cute belted too.  Old Navy $34
6. Love the soft stripes and slinky knit of this A.L.C dress. $475

And though not stripes, I just picked up some black and white pieces that I am pumped to wear tomorrow night for a night out. Black, white, leopard, and gold. Can't go wrong, right?
1. Honestly, these Hudson jeans are the most flattering I have ever worn and so comfortable.
2. I got this French Connection top at Bevello on sale. You can also get it here.
3. I have black cap toe pumps like these from Club Monaco that I love so much.
4. This Bauble Bar hassle necklace is a lot like one of my vintage costume pieces. $36
5. This Claire V. clutch is currently sold out everywhere. It has become my go to. Which is funny since I used to loathe leopard.

I hope your weekend is black, white, and chic all over.

Best of the Booties

The bootie has become a Fall staple that makes it easy to elevate an outfit from "I am just wearing my skinnies and a tee" to "Look at how pulled together and cool I am."

They look great with jeans tucked over or cuffed above them, with leggings or tights with a tunic or dress, and bare legged for you lucky ladies in the warmer states. Though there are some fancier versions like Reese's above, I rounded up my favorite casual pairs that can be dressed up or down and perfect for running through your day.

1. The shorter heel height is nice on this pair. Splendid $195
2. I love the contrast of the gray with the light colored heel. Loeffler Randall $319
3.  This is slightly chunkier style where your jeans could fit over the top easily. Jeffrey Campbell $154
4. This is a really classic style with a pointier toe. Madewell $218
5. This black pair is more refined and sleek than the others. Madewell $258
6. This is my favorite pair. Love the shape and the hint of Western. Arrici $259
7. These are more of an investment, but they really started this entire trend. Rag & Bone $525
8. Kind of obsessed with an open toe. Coach $298
9. This suede open toe is also so chic. Vince $395

Moto Boots

There were four requests last week for moto boot options. So clearly you ladies are into them. I love mine so much and they really stand the test of time. Because of the easy on/easy off and comfort, they make a great alternative to those furry Uggs you cannot let go of (guilty!).

They can be an investment piece, which can be hard to pull the trigger on. Below are some designer options that have higher price tags and some much more budget friendly ones. Either way, there is the perfect pair for you.

1. This pair by Chloe are elegant and edgy. Hard to find. $1175
2. These Fendi  have a chunky base for the snow $990
3. A refined version with great studs Tod's $995
4. Jimmy Choo Own them, love them $995

And some much more down to earth pairs...

1. Love the worn in look of these Frye $298
2. These H by Hudson would be great in the snow $275
3. Still pricey, but these Rag & Bone are so cool $698
4. Love this pair by Topshop $125
5. These Kate Spade even have a charming bow on the back $398
6. This Steve Madden pair is very similar to the Choos above. Great shape $169

Black Tie Affair

With wedding season pretty much never ending for us twenty and thirty somethings, the black tie dress code can be a monthly affair. This dress code can be the hardest as the dress cannot be worn to many other functions and you never know just how dressy people will get. The trick is to find something classic that you can switch up with accessories for different weddings. I recently put together some options for a friend and now I am hoping for a fancy event in my future as well.

This simple, but stunning dress would look gorgeous with gold accessories and a statement shoe. $250

A romantic, pleated dress gets an edge with a metal gold belt. This dress comes in many colors. So pretty. $106

If you go all out with the jewelry, shoes, bag, hair, and make up, short is totally doable for black tie. I love that all of these have an interesting architectural element.
The pink peplum would look fab with a blingy statement necklace ($116).
The halter dress would be gorgeous with chunky gold cuffs and a drop earring ($63 on sale).
I am obsessed with this flutter detail on the skater dress. The ultimate way to make a statement with a LBD. $106

And if you really want to make a statement, the jumpsuit would be so fab. Both the deep v with the mesh version and this killer black and white would be a show stopper. Just make sure you do it up with the rest of your look.

Puddle Jumpers

Since I have already gotten excited about coats for Fall, you know that boots are following close behind. I have a great pair of fur lined moto boots that I live in come winter, but I think some new rain boots for that in between time of it being cold and there actually being snow on the ground would be a nice addition. Hunters are the logical choice, but they have some new styles this year and there are some other brands that have my eye.

1. This beige pair by Sloosh Italy are kind of amazing. The color and buckles are gorge. $220
2. This Gucci pair would be an investment, but the shape is perfection. $450
3. Coral is my jam. These would brighten up a cold day. Hunter $148
4. Snakeskin gives this pair by Dav a chic look $80
5. The shape of these Hunter's would be very flattering on anyone. $175
6. I am a sucker for a equestrian stripe and buckle. Dav $110
7. The classic Hunter, but in a great moody navy $148
8. These new glossy black Hunter's have an adjustable back for better sizing (i.e: perfect for people like me with larger calves) $152

And because I cannot resist, although she may not be able to sport them anytime soon, how cute are these for Miss Mary?
The glossy black are to die and the sweet yellow pair would be adorable on rainy days.

Pop of Neutral

I am really in a black kind of mood lately. Not so much that I feel down as I am already looking to Fall for recent purchases. I usually gravitate towards gray and denim, but now I am all about black. And as much as I wish I could pull off a totally monochromatic look, I need at least some color to break it up. Looking at my closet, I have plenty of brights to do so but somehow a pop of neutral feels so much cooler to me. Here are some looks I put together that could be worn now and into Fall with the addition of some opaque tights and your favorite leather jacket. In black obvi.

Pop of Gray
1. Lacey crop from Topshop $58 / 2. Classic clutch in soft suede by Claire V. $194 / 3. These Vince booties are killer $395 / 4. Flirty skirt from J. Crew $89

Note: This type of crop would only show just a sliver of skin and this is a high waisted skirt perfect for this look. Belly button is covered, that is the priority, ladies.

 Pop of Beige
1. Worship this FindersKeepers romper $130 / 2. Total splurge, but who doesn't want a piece of Victoria Beckham $658 / 3. Pretty adjustable belt for cinching. B Low $138 4. A more wallet friendly version of the nudist sandal, but still great quality. Shutz $180

Pop of White
1. I own these and love them. Seven $189 / 2. The perfect white tee from J. Crew $29 / 3. Dream Bag by Phillip Lim $895/ 4. Loving the shape of these Ray Ban sunglasses $135 / 5. A drapey cardigan on sale at Nordstrom $44

Is it weird that I am looking forward to Fall? I think this slightly cooler weather is fast tracking my anticipation.

Time for Sunnies

Besides shoes and bags, there is nothing that a lady invests in more than her shades. They truly get more wear than almost everything in your closet and serve many purposes. Part protection from the sun, part protection from the public, we all like to hide behind them a little once in awhile. So they must look good

I have worn this pair of Chanel's so much and unfortunately they have suffered way too much abuse and it is time for a new pair. I am obsessed with them.

They do not seem that special I am sure, but the shape is my favorite I have ever come across. If you have a favorite pair (I have plenty of others that never get used) you know how I feel. And to my great sadness, Chanel does not make this exact pair anymore. Lame.

So I am on the hunt. I love over sized and black, but may stray into the navy or tortoise spectrum. They need to be large, but not too and have a bit of a D frame or cat eye going on. Here is what I found so far.

(Hover over for info, click to view)

The Gucci pair are closest to what I have, but those tortoise Row's are kind of amazing. they sell out fast, so might need to make a decision. Which is hard since as I said, this is quite the investment. Any favorites? What pair do you wear that you can't live without?

Black & White Inside

After my post on Friday, I realized that my black and white obsession goes beyond fashion. Looking at all my recent inspiration photos that I have pinned, the theme continues throughout the house. My living room is a work in progress right now (currently the land of legos, trains, and puzzles) but I have been leaning towards a black, white, and gray color scheme. But now I am thinking of it in other areas of the house thanks to these incredible spaces.

This bathroom is amazing. That copper fixture? Love.

I wish I could be this bold and do a stripe. So fun for a guest room.

This shows how black and white can still be soft. This is more the style of my home.

Fun and modern.

Outdoor living in such a chic way. Those chairs are beautiful.

Here are some fun pieces that you could incorporate easily into a room.

1.  Fun pillow from Furbish $50
2. This is the rug we have in the living room. Could not love it more, great for kids. Crate & Barrel $299 for 8x10, comes in other sizes too.
3. I think I am ordering these Serena & Lily $58 sheers for our bathroom.
4. Super chic lamps from Furbish $210 for set of 2
5. An easy throw by Nate Berkus $29
6. Love this modern vase from Target $22
7. Kind of obsessed with director's chairs. This one from Target $41would be so fun in a sun room or as kitchen dining chairs.
8. Can't go wrong with this classic from West Elm
9. I want these pillows from Dwell Studio $86 for my couch

Are you into black and white like me?

Pop of Spring

I have been obsessed with black and white dresses lately. Modern and chic and you know they will last year after year. My hunt for them has brought me to these beauties. Simply stated, could work day or night, and would go with my classic black sandals and go to black bag.

1. French Connection $158 / 2. DVF $425/ 3. Bailey 44 $168 / 4. Club Monaco $179 / 5. BB Dakota $90

But because it is Spring and we crave color more than anything after this gray winter (that never goes away!), these beauties need a punch. I am all for a pop of color, but only in one item. An all neutral outfit with a burst of color in a shoe, bag, OR piece of jewelry, is fun and just enough. Here are some fun examples that are on my wish list.

1. Kenneth Jay Lane $150 / 2. J. Crew $148 / 3. Joie $275 / 4. J. Crew $188 / 5. Kate Spade $225

I hope your weekend has a punch of something.
Or at least something spiked?

white + pink + black

There are no less than ten million ways to be inspired by Paris fashion week, but today this lovely ensemble worn by Elena Perminova is my favorite.

vogue.com

By the way, she is pregnant. So she officially has the most amazing maternity style of all time. What is so fetching about this to me is the color combination and the statement of wearing pastel even in the dead of winter. White, soft pink, and black is so crazy chic and easy to pull off in our every day lives. Here are a few ways to put it together...

Fun combination, right? I am crushing on all of these. Especially those flared jeans.

One Piece Please

The Rachel Zoe Project is on again tonight, are you a fan? I have watched since the first season and love seeing how her business has gone from just styling to ma-jor corporate brand. Some of her language and reactions are getting a tad bit old, but she seems like a fun boss and a glimpse into her world is a nice escape for an hour.

If you do watch or at least saw her collection for Spring, she was all over the maxi (subject matter of last weeks ep) and of course the jumpsuit. I have such a love for the jumpsuit or romper. It is so easy to throw one on and poof! You have a look. Plus, having shorts or pants attached is way easier to get around in than a short skirt or giant maxi.

I LOVE the sweet print of the first romper and the Chambray has such an ease to it. The BCBG screams vacation to me. And the sporty, but silky Paige could be perfect for date night.

I think people are more wary about jumpsuits with pants since the dreaded camel toe situation. It is all about the fit and if there is any pulling, return immediately. But how chic would these be?

Ombre DVF $465 / Draping Ramy Brook $445 / Printed Rachel Zoe $325/ Sexy Parker $286

The DVF printed jumpsuit is beyond chic to me, the print is so pretty. The Ramy Brook is gorgeous and with some gold jewelry and simple heels, you would kill it at your next event. Rachel's printed cropped suit is perfect for a day look or concert. The relaxed fit of the Parker looks comfortable, but also shows some skin.

Oscar After Party Inspiration

So many of the After Party Oscar dresses were in my opinion, better than the actual red carpet.

After Anne's not-so-great-Prada, this chic column looks fresh and fun. The ultimate ice queen, Natalie, is gorgeous in Dior. Jennifer put her party dress on to celebrate her win. And Nina Debrov, who has been killing it lately, looks so chic in graphic black and white.

Then, there is the queen of the carpet herself, Diane.

Black and white is a huge trend for Spring and this shape is all kinds of amazing. Clearly only she could ever wear this and pull it off, but she is flawless per usual.

A small black and white print is a great, versatile way to add to your closet for Spring. Plus, it really works all year round. While we wish we could have Diane's frock, there are some more accessible options around.

From left: Topshop $76, Three Floor $262, Theory $285, Asos $50

The tunic would be perfect belted with wedges and a statement necklace. I am obsessed with the silhouette of the Three Floor dress, so flirty and flattering. Ikat is not only sweet for your house, this print shows how you can wear it anytime. The chevron dress is a great way to look hot on date night.

You going back and white anytime soon?

Twinkle Toes

Wouldn't these just brighten your day?

Or maybe this bling-ed out soft suede pair...

Something that sparkles looking up at you every day.

Hope your day has some sparkle.
