Oscars 2019: Best & Worst Dressed

I was over on my Insta Stories last night doing full commentary on the Oscar red carpet and LOVED hearing all your feedback too. I used to watch these events with my friends roommates for years. Take out, cheap wine, and snarky banter. Man I miss those days! So talking about it real time with all of you feels a bit of the same and I love it. But let's dive a little deeper, shall we?

This is my top best dressed. After seeing it on stage and seeing the detail it was magical. The embroidery is gorgeous and that fabric floats around her like a dream. I think she should have done something with her hair at least a bit, and this pose is hilarious, but otherwise perfection.

Pink was definitely THE color of the night. I know Kacey's ruffles are controversial, but I really loved it. Lucy's purple looked regal and just dark enough for her. Gemma's dress I went back and forth on because of the fabric, but really it is AMAZING. This pale pink could not have been a more perfect color and fit to a t.

Molly has never looked better, those cut outs bug a bit though. Emilia's dress was SO much better on stage. I hate when that is the truth, but it was better under stage light but still beautiful. I do not love the trim on the top of Constance's dress, but the color and cut is gorgeous. Love the red lip a la Michelle Williams.

Octavia has the best stylist in town. Always looks so great! Marie Kondo was there for I am not sure what reason, but she looks gorg! Regina looked flawless and the styling was on point.

Queen Latifa's dress is really cool. And Glenn slays in this caped gold number. Gaga looked incredible, but I am not sure I really loved it. Kind of boring.

Brie looked insane. Did not love the hair and her dress gapped a bit of the side, but she looked amazing. Helen can DO NOT WRONG in my book. And I am forgetting this sweet lady's name, but I loooove her style.

J. Lo is an enigma as we know in this amazing Tom Ford. I saw her hair on stage and it did not even look real. How dies she get it that shiny?! This is Tina's best look to date, perfect in every way for her. Jennifer looked amazing in this architectural red. You know I love a ruffle.

I know not everyone will love Emma's dress, but it was amazing. The beading is crazy good and this is so her. Allison looks SO GOOD. I love this and her so much. Sarah's dress is so good. Different, but makes sense and again hot pink was the color of choice.

Now on to the BAD...
I want to like this pink ruffle because Linda looked SO happy in it. But it just came off as a mess. Guilana, really there are no words for how lame this is. Marias dress is bananas. Literally. And her orange mermaid hair is not cute.

Lisa is pretty flawless and her quirk gets her far, but this is strange on a new level. Red lace overlay is a tough look and this much of it is even tougher. Rachel went for something avant garde and it misses big time. The plastic top is such a head scratcher.

Laura's beauty, hair and jewels are amazing, but this dress is so strange. Retro in a bad way and the color is what? Brown? Maya is so cool and funny. This was just too much print and over look. Maybe in a solid it would have worked. And Charlize. I love parts of this, but as a whole it completely falls apart. So covered up, the severe hair, the high neck, the strange fit of it all. Not great.

What do you think????

Best & Worst Dressed: Oscars 2018

Did you watch last night? Honestly I watched the show to see the song from The Greatest Showman sung and it was towards the darn end! I digress...
So I know the Oscars is supposed to be the big show. The one we all wait for and all the dazzle it brings. But this year felt a bit subdued and pulled back. Plain even? Maybe it was because of the recent political and cultural stances that have been taking place on the carpet. But regardless, I missed seeing some real stand out and risky dresses tonight. Even if it is a miss, at least it happened? There were some really beautiful moments though and not too many misses. Although you can be sure I found them and will be pointing them out.

First My Top Three:

J. Law is giving us disco queen and I love it. The dress fits perfectly and she really went for the whole vibe. Margot is STUNNING in this white off the shoulder. The fit and drape is beautiful and I love the hair so much. Nicole rarely misses and this was one of those statement dresses I needed. The color is SO good. Even her pose is perfect for it. The hair bugs, but other than that it is perfect.

Other Favorites:
Zendaya is so beautiful in this. I think it has a smidge too much volume. But, the entire look from the hair, jewels, tone of dress, I am in love with it. Allison was looking painfully thin on the last carpet, and she may well be still, but is looking more like the girl we love here. Glam hair and makeup with a beautiful classic gown. Jen went for siren and I love it (see ya Ben!). This is exactly the kind of statement she needed to make. I have never seen her this vamped up and it suites her.

Gal's look is pretty. There is something about it that I do not love, but cannot even put my finger on. She really cannot do wrong and clearly pulls it off. It was gorgeous on stage. Viola does color so well. To wear this color is risky, but the simple silhouette and fun hair and hoops rounds it all out perfectly. The hem of Saiorse's dress is driving me nuts, but the shade of pink is beautiful on her and the bow is the perfect touch.

Helen is kind of a snooze, but per usual stunning and I love her hair. Laura also kept it so simple. Which I can appreciate, but she could have done something so much better. Her hair is so pretty. Jane is 80. That is all.

Metallic can be such a good way to go on the carpet, but these missed the mark for me.
Molly just had baby number 3 I think, so clearly she is an alien. But I think the chest is not doing her justice. Also, why was she there? Lupita's dress goes too costume for me. If this was just a gold lame in an interesting cut I think it would have been stunning. Sandra's hair kills this look for me. It is so severe. And I wish the neck of this did not go up and was a subtle scoop. So minor because clearly she looks amazing, but would have helped.

Some other lovelies.
This gorgeous girl's name eludes me, but this is the perfect shade of blush. Keala was in The Greatest Showman which might be on my top 10 fave movie list now. She was amazing and looks so pretty here! Greta pulls off yellow, which is so hard. This has an orange tone and I love it paired with an unexpected red lip.

These are two head scratchers, but...
This is the dress that Rita wore 50 years ago when she won an Oscar. Which shows that if you wear the right dress it becomes a classic. She rocks. And I KNOW that you will think this on Audrey should be on the absolute bottom, but you guys, I kind of like it! lol The sleeves are a bit much, but it is interesting and she went for it. You think I am insane, right?

Ok, so my worst dressed of the night...
Selma's dress was clearly a couture gown, but it needed to be reigned in. There is too much and those ruffles on the bottom cheapen it. Whoa there Lindsey. This is like a futuristic saloon girl who wants to punch someone int he face. She should have stayed to her sportiness and showed off that all american girl style she is known for. While I like Emma's suit, it is NOT DRESSY ENOUGH. There is probably a way to do a tuxedo on Oscar night and it could be amazing. This is not it.

Leslie's is not that bad. Just came off cheesy to me and I did not like the fit of the front. She is the coolest still though. Taraji's dress is just all wrong with too much going on. The draping, mesh and long sleeves with the slit is not a good combo. Oh and Maya. Also a favorite who never gets it right and this blows my mind. I think it is actually a jumpsuit? But it just looks like a bag. With some tailoring this maybe could have been ok???

The worst were not even that bad, right?
What did you think???

Best & Worst Dressed: Oscars 2017

The red carpet action at the Oscars last night was a real head scratcher. While there were some I loved, I also felt like even those were a bit forgetful. No? There were certainly some that were not great, but maybe not so bad that you will remember its awfulness. There was bit of a sadness to the whole thing, but let's find some love in there shall we?

MVP of the night and certainly on the best dressed list is Hailee Steinfeld.

She not only was a ethereal beauty at the arrivals, she also killed it at the Vanity Fair party. She has pretty much been on the best lists since she hit puberty, so clearly her stylist is doing her job amazingly.

My other Bests for the night...
Nicole Kidman pulls off the nude look without being washed out for the first time in history and looks stunning. The red lip is everything. Viola went a bit safe, but the fit is flawless and the hair is so chic. While Georgina looks like she may pass out (feed her Harvey!), I love this dress so much. Black with that green velvet trim is so interesting and beautiful.

Best continued...

I worship velvet and this old Hollywood glam look on Taraji makes me love it even more. The jewels and hear are also spot on. LOVE Olivia's dress. This is fringe done right in my opinion, which is so hard to do. Jessica's hair is unfortunate, but the dress is beautiful. The necklace is questionable, but somehow the whole look comes together. If Brie's hair was different, she might have been my #1. Again, velvet is my thing, so I knew I would like it, but the draping is so pretty. and I actually like the shape of the top (controversial I know!). The hair just does not fit for me. Love the lip.

These gals did white right...

Chrissy looks stunning. Love this update to a cape/train that Darby (girl from Scandal) has on. Simple, but so so pretty. This French actress's name eludes me, but I love her dress and overall look so much. While the cape thing has been done and that ribbon on her hip bugs so bad, I do think Karlie looks great. Naomi's dress is not dressy enough, right? But I love it and those shoes.

These are looks that were just a bit off for me. Not bad, but not quite right...
Green velvet is a toughie, but I like this on Busy. Somehow those curves of the dress are a bit off for me though. The size of the top of Emma's dress could be a bit bigger. Otherwise, so pretty. Kirstin's dress looks even better at different angles, but the top was awkwardly fit. Otherwise I love it. Michelle does not look dressed up enough for me. And her make up (or lack thereof?) looks off. Pretty, yes. But she could have done better.

Alicia wore two different looks like Hailee last night.
I like the green she wore to the Vanity Fair party better than her Oscar dress. It is nothing to write home about, but ok. This black dress is a bit too saloon gal for me with the corset and ruffles. And the hair confuses me so much. This pains me because I have such a girl crush on her!

 Emma also changed...
So the gold oscar look was pretty, but just not the right dress for her. She looks so great in bright and bold colors and this is kind of sad. The proportion of the fringe feels strange to me. And then she wins and changes into a blazer and slip dress, which I am a huge fan of. But NOT FOR AN OSCAR WINNER! Good lord, throw on the most bad ass gown you can find and celebrate lady!

Scarlett went with too much volume for both looks and that cape?button down?sleeve? is so strange on her vanity fair look. The hair for the Oscars was also weird.

These two ladies in red...

To be fair, Ginnifer was sad about Bill Paxton, so that explains the face. But this dress is just all together too much. And that hair, I will never understand it. I actually like the other red on Ruth. But along with the red eye, red lip, red hair piece, and red earring, it is a no.

In other news...
How is it possible to dress two of the smallest people that walk the earth in unflattering gowns??? I saw Charlize's dress at other angles and it looked even worse. Felicity's could be so pretty too, but the color washes her out and the waist clearly is not showing her skeleton frame well enough. ha

And to round out the worst...
Halle had a lot of hair going on, which fine. But the dress is cheesy and that weird sash hanging down bugs. Janelle went for it, which I appreciate. But it is too much. The volume, all the texture/applique, the neck piece, the crown, the illusion. It is too much look for sure. Oh Dakota. Let's start with the hair, which is very Little House on the Prairie. Then the WRINKLED vintage gown. Which on it's own may have worked? Probably not, but with the hair it is a mess. And Leslie, I love the color, I even love the volume. But it is just too much volume and that extra tie bow in the front kills me. Love her hair and make up per usual.

Just because I cannot help myself...
Selma has little girl hair and did she have a facelift? She is so pretty! Why oh why would be mess with a face like that! And Kristen is painfully small. I hate to shame anyone, but it is hard to look at and I know for a fact she does not eat cheeseburgers. Or probably cheese for that matter.

The Vanity Fair Party has some memorable looks. Both good and bad...

RHW Slays
Even with a bump.

I loved all of these sparkly numbers. I know Thandie's is a bit out there, but I love shape and embellished shoulders. You know I hate an illusion, but somehow this one feels fun and ready for a dance party. Allison looks painfully thin, wow. But This dress is so pretty and I love her make up (hope she had in n out there). Amanda has been missing the mark lately, bit this simple dress is so fun in metallic. J Anniston vamps it up and pulls off wearing her hair down and straight to a black tie event like no other.

I loved all of the long sleeves. I would wear any of these in a hot second. Kelly is a bit out of the box in her tux and I like it.

Two feminine looks I loved. Kate went full princess and looks like Grace Kelly. Not one other person on earth could convince me that this dress was pretty, but Kate does. Even that strange skirt portion feels right for spinning on the dance floor.

And of course there were some that I will remember for the wrong reasons...
Ah, I love Mindy but this is horrible. Jessica went for a I dream of jeanie/50s housewife robe look? Not diggin it. You know I love Diane, but that sash hanging there makes me angry. And Gabrielle is a beautiful gal, but a half gown/half bikini is a no.

Thoughts? Would love to hear from you!

Best & Worst Dressed: Oscar 2016

This was by far one of the best Oscar red carpets in years. Everyone (well, almost) kind of killed it. Lots of colors, chic silhouettes, and full on glamour. Another thing was that most of the ladies were dressed in looks that really felt like them. While we know most of these looks are custom, the designers can sometimes get carried away. A lot of ladies really found their best matched dress and the results were beautiful.

Let's start with the crème de la crème...

From Left: Saoirse couldn't be more stunning in this emerald Calvin Klein. Love her hair and make up too. Charlize could lose the hair flip, but the dress and necklace are killer. Brie softened things up in Gucci, don't love the hair, but the dress more than makes up for it. You know I am a sucker for any 70s glam and Margot even throws in a hassled clutch, so of course its one of the top.

Alicia was so sweet when she won and this Louis Vuitton couldn't have been more perfect. Cate slays per usual. This dress looked like it was tailored on her body, was an absolute piece of art, and her hair and make up were perfection. Only Olivia could get away with something so simple, but this Stella McCartney was so gorgeously fitted and the color suited her. Jen showed up looking like a real life movie star. Love it. And Naomi's Armani looked even better on camera. She seems to always get it right these days.

And there were plenty of other beauties on the red carpet. Not quite at the top, but definitely note worthy. First these ladies in white...
I love Isla and this gown is so perfectly matched with that pony and red lip. I am luke warm on pants and the fit of this, but if anyone can pull it off it is LG. This is the see through dress done right on Priyanka.

Black was also represented well.
Mindy (who I am obsessed with) has never looked better, love her dress. Eddie Redmayne's wife always looks so chic and this is perfect for her bump. Julianne is usually at the top of my list and this was close, but there was something heavy about this dress that bugged a little bit. But you can hardly go wrong with custom Chanel, right? Kate has been so boring on almost every carpet and while this is still kind of boring, I love the unexpected fabric and her hair and make up.

Blue and purple were also popular
Reese didn't wow me in this, but she did get to wear Oscar de la Renta and it is beautiful. Though Sofia is wearing a strapless dress for the 1000th time, this is a slight departure and she pulls it off. Tina has never looked better. This dress and that insane necklace was a gorgeous choice. Patricia is the night's most improved. She is usually in some mess, but she looked great in this

These silver looks were all almost perfect
I love a classic Vivienne Westwood and this is beautiful on Lily. Love the shoes too. After I saw this Chanel on stage, Daisy really belongs at the top of the list. It sparkled and was insanely gorgeous. Charlotte kills it in this Armani, the shoes are questionable but she knows how to dress.

Now while it is hard because even the worst dressed looked kind of good, there were some dresses that could have been better.
I had predicted this Valentino to be on the carpet and loved it, but the way it is glued onto Olivia's chest and paired with this choker (why or why are chokers back?!) ruins it. Rachel's dress looks like an off the rack backless prom dress a 18 year old would beg her mom to wear because she knew it was a little too slutty. The wrinkles on the fabric kill me too. Jennifer's is not terrible, but I just do not like it. Not even sure why exactly, maybe too lingerie-ish? Love her hair and make up though. Rooney is once again dressed as the bride of frankenstein. Why does her hair have to be SO severe every time?!

Heidi always just goes a little far, right? This purple mess is no exception. Kerry looks like she is wearing a costume, I do not get it at all. Amy is dressed three decades too old for her! She is so much cooler and young than this. And Emily's could be good, but the top cheapens it and is not fitted right. She looks so pretty besides that.

Dying to know what you thought??? Did I miss any of your favorites?

Oscars 2015: Best & Worst Dressed

They came and tried to dazzle us. Some succeed, many did not. Did anyone feel last night was a let down? Don't get me wrong, tons of gorgeous gowns, but very few that took a risk and really made a beautiful statement. Of course there were some, so let's start with those ladies.

Marion, Emma, and Margot are my top of the Best list. I know that Marion is a wild card with this billowing back, but I love it. One of the few that took a risk and I love her for it. It has a mod feel while also feeling glam. Emma kills in this. Love seeing her in some sparkle and that color is perfect for her. Margot in YSL, that necklace, a red lip. Simple, yet screams Hollywood.

More after the jump…

These ladies in red are my second runners up. Rosamund stuns in this red. Tailored so well and the cut makes it modern. Dakota also looks fetching in red, this photo does not give this dress justice.

Best Dressed Couples? I could almost give Eddie and his wife overall Best Dressed. His wife's dress is amazing. Bahati's dress is beautiful, hair might be a bit severe, but the Levine's look great.

The rest of the Best…
Blushing ladies looking pretty: Jennifer Aniston isn't wearing anything earth shattering, but pretty. Keira's will be controversial, but I think it is beautiful. Jennifer comes out in a full movie star gown that so many actual movie stars should have worn. Why is she at these shows again? Gwyneth is wearing the most perfect shade of pink ever. Love this.

Heavy metals always look great on the red carpet. Laura could ditch that necklace and hair, but that dress is killer. Rita has done one movie and is looking like an old pro. Love this navy with the gold. Naomi's dress looks terrible here, but on the red carpet this was great (I hate me for saying it, but it is true). Miss Chung is bring it with this gown. So pretty.

The color combo of this on Nicole is odd, but I like it. Anna looks a little uncomfortable in this gown, but she is so fun. Miss Hudson is gorgeous in yellow and those earrings. I actually think I hate this on Anna. But then I like it. And then I hate it again.

Lupita could have been at the top of the list with this pearl number, but that fitting on top is strange. And that trend continues with Julianne. That middle row of flowers kills this entire dress. Otherwise, it would be SO good. Carolina looking gorg in this ruffled number. And dare I say I like this on Lady Gaga? The matching gloves, hair piece, and lips are horrible, but the dress is really great.

This is the category I like to call, I am disappointed. REALLY disappointed.
These ladies could do SO much better. They could pick any dress, any dress in the world and this is what they choose? While they all look really pretty, they are all quite boring. Cate's necklace is a redeeming factor, but other than that I really wish they would have made some better choices. And risks!

And now onto the worst...
Whoa, Scarlett. I don't think anyone has looked as scary at the Oscars since Gwyneth forgot to wear a bra. She also is officially a bobble head. Eat a cheeseburger. I want to be on Zoe's side so much because this lady just had twins. Twins! She looks amazing, but this dress cannot be saved. The top is so bad. Everything about Jessica's is so bad. The proportions could not be more unflattering and slit makes it even worse.

I kind of worship Chloe, but this can't be saved. Too much like upholstery and that band at the top cheapens it. Chrissy has been on the top of the lists the last year, but this entire look is all too much. The slit is way too much and that lipstick is too dark. Felicity, oh how I love her. I just saw The Theory of Everything (amazing) and it breaks my heart to see her as a worst dressed. This dress is swallowing her whole. As are those bangs.

These two couple need some help. I love the Carrell's but her dress is a big fat no. And wtf happened to Tim McGraw?! He is five pounds, I think Faith could take him in a fight. Not loving her hair either.

And that's it! What were your thoughts??? You know that I love that we don't always agree, that is the fun of it.
