Best & Worst Dressed: 2016 Golden Globes

Hi Loves. New year treating you well?
While I have lots of hopes of writing more personal essays this year and to share a big project I have been working on in my own home, right now there is just time for a little fashion. But I do hope that the first week or so into this cold winter has at least included warm meals by a fire or two, smiles from those you love, and full days in pajamas.

While I was not able to watch the show on my couch like I prefer, I did have a good amount of time this morning to roll through all the red carpet photos. And what an eclectic mix it was. You know I love when things get shaken up a bit and this year it totally did.

The top of my list this year includes some newbies and old favorites.

Drew! I kind of gasped when I saw her. This dress is so her, but also so glam. She looks gorgeous and more importantly, happy. While I know this fabric on Michelle can be a bit heavy, I love it on her and she even pulls off a choker in a fresh way. Natalie is certainly paying homage to her character in this long sleeve yellow and is great for her bump (she is was so good in Jackie, btw). I am unfamiliar with this beauty (Caitriona Balfe) in navy and red, but I LOVE this combo and the shape of this dress. Ruth Nega brings something different in a good way in this Loius Vuitton. Love the metallic and the shape paired with the zipper.

Also towards the top of the list...

Claire Foy somehow makes pink sequins work and it may just be the pairing of that soft blue sash. Love her hair and make up as well. I am a sucker for a good velvet and this Armani on Teresa Palmer paired with a red lip is classically perfect. Besides the strange ribbons hanging on the bottom, I love this fun floral on Renee Bargh (ps: I have no idea who half these people are). She looks young, fresh, and different in a good way. Though Mandy is bringing possibly a bit too much exposure to the carpet, she looked gorgeous in this caped chiffon. A smile could have helped a bit too. The girl from  Stranger Things nails it in Jenny Packham. Sweet, but not too much with a red lip and slicked back hair. The "kids" always get it right!

There were quite a few trends that we saw this year.

Yellow
Not loving this on Emily. That glitter strip is awkward, but her hair and make up are pretty. Viola looks stunning in yellow, and keeps everything else perfectly simple. I actually like this DG on Keri, but the underwear under a dress thing is tired. And those shoes, nope. Love her lipstick. Dare I say Reese looks boring? This color is so pretty on her, but that dress is just lame.

Floral
I am loving Lola Kirke (???) in this pink number. The hair is not great, but I love that it is down. Jessica is a real head scratcher in this blue. At first glance it is pretty, and then it seems awkward? Too sweet? On the fence. Laura Dern looks great in this. Does she ever age??? Busy is actually one of the only celebs I follow on Insta and I love her. But this dress is hurting. The placement of the flowers is strange, otherwise it could have been a great simple black dress. Olivia's could have been good I feel like, but it is just too much. Especially with under cleavage? Can we stop that already?

 Metallics
There were some that did Metallics right, like these ladies. Emma looked beautiful, do not love that necklace with it, but love everything else. Annette looks beautiful and perfectly age appropriate, if not looking amazing in general. Priyanka looks stunning in this gold brocade and I love her lipstick with it. Naomi is basically perfect in this Armani. The styling is simple, yet gorgeous.

These metallics, maybe not so much
I love that Sophia dropped the mermaid, but this is a lot. And her hair reminds me of Kevin Federline. I actually do like Chrissy's look, but the dress was gapping at the arm hole in so many pictures it bugged. And Sarah's could have been on the top, but I cannot get behind the short lining and see through skirt. So over that look and this one is so noticeable.

Beaded
What Cavallari was doing there is beyond me, but I love this dress on her. Elsa always looks gorge, I again I am over the illusion dress, but otherwise it was nice. This dress on Traci is confusing to me. That weird short lining ruins it I think. and the short hem is awkward. Love her hair and make up though.

Tuxes were also a thing
I worship Kathryn Hahn in almost every show and movie she is in (cried laughing at her character in Bad Moms). The red carpet has been a struggle for her. I think she is nailing this tux though. Few can carry it off and I think she did. Kristen is also doing a tux-ish gown good. She looks stunning. Rachel on the other hand, is not convincing me. The vest/shirt is not great, neither is the hair. I get the androgyny thing, but something more femme with the shirt and styling would have made it better.

White was everywhere, again
You know I am Sienna's biggest fan. I would have done something else with the hair and ditched the pearls, but I like the dress. Love Thandie's entire look. Jillian wore a full blown gown, too bride for me. Love her in the Fall though (on netflix). Louise's pose kills me, but I love this dress and the shoes. Kirsten's could be great, but again, that slip line across is a bummer.

Some went simple, but pretty
I think I am partial to the green on Jenna because I just wore a dress like it and loved it. Goldie is kind of always a winner in my book. She looked great. Amanda is usually a wild card, so even though this is kind of boring, the color is beautiful on her. Julia knows what works for her and sticks to it. Love a black and white. Brie looks scary in this photo! But the dress is pretty and she clearly went for the siren look.

There are always looks that sometimes it is hard to tell if you love it or not. Last night maybe more than ever.
Now first off, Blake just had babies back to back and looks fantastic. But, this dress felt strange. I think it is those pockets? I love Felicity and I think I would have loved this dress with one or three less elements to it. I love her bangs and make up though. I think (or hope) that Anna was happier last night than this photo shows. The color of this dress is what is throwing me off and the fact that it looks like one of her boobs has a sling. It is pretty, but kind of sad. Lily went for the full princess. She is probably one of the few that can pull it off. I think it just goes a bit over the top, but it is kind of her thing.

I actually really wanted to like this leopard on Keri, but it is a lot. I go from loving it, to hating it. Maybe that is the point? Everyone raved on Jessica, but the bottom felt a bit heavy. She clearly looks stunning, but not the biggest fan of the dress. I also really wanted to love this Gucci since I love a pink dress, but it is just a bit too much ruffle. Maybe one less layer of it on the bodice, lose the bow and it could have been a winner?

Another trend we saw that I cannot quite wrap my head around is cold shoulder full sleeves
I am not loving it. I think it is the scale of all of them. Hailee's are probably the best, with Nicole's being the worst (those ruffles). Nicole is giving us a whole lot of Moulin Rouge, although the dress itself is actually gorgeous, minus the sleeves? gloves?

The bottom of the list for me...
By far the absolute worst is Cuba. That jacket is WAY too small. It is almost comical (maybe it was on purpose??). Guliana's mock turtleneck kills me. The whole thing is kinda cheesy. Anna, who god bless just had a kid or three, looks so great, but this dress is doing nothing for her! Great color for her, but not flattering. Carrie also upped the cheese factor from Guliana with this number. The combo of the color, ruffles, and cut outs are a no. I am unsure of this young pixie's name, but I think she is currently making out with a Jonas Brother. This is a classic too much going on dress. The mesh, the dolman sleeve, the belt, the asymmetry. I feel like she wanted to class herself up but also wanted to have as much see through as possible. Hard to do and look chic.

What were some of your favorites?? Least?  You know I love to hear your opinions!

Met Ball 2016: Best & Worst Dressed

The Met Ball can be seriously scary and beautiful all at the same time. People want to take a risk, but they want to still be chic. And then there are those that take a risk just for the shock factor and it is a hot mess. There was a little bit of both last night, and I want to start with my favorites.

From Left: Kate always verges on severe, but this dress is a true work of art and I love the headpiece with it. Cindy slays. She looks beautiful, works in the theme (ManusXMachina) but looks effortless doing so. Poppy looks both from the future and Victorian past with make up from the 90s. Which I would never put all together, but somehow it all works flawlessly. Kate's Versace is truly a work of art. We knew we would be seeing cut outs, because it is the trend that won't quit, but this dress is unreal and fits to perfection.

This will be Beyonce's first time at the top of my list I think. Maybe because she is showing less skin?? The dress is incredible and her hair and make up look so fresh. Brie needs to lose the severe hair AND make up, but I love this Proenza Scholer. I am forgetting this gorgeous girl's name, but I LOVE this dress. Sienna nails the dress and the beauty this time. Again, I am not sure I can handle the super dark lip on Rachel, but I do love this Valentino. I would have lined it instead of the nude undies, but other than that I love it.

Claire Danes had a full Cinderella moment in Zac Posen, which looks stunning and then this happened when she went inside to the low lit room. Unreal and SO amazing.

There were a lot of great looks too...
There were quite a few vets of the Ball that I liked.
Haven't seen Katie in awhile, the hair is intense, but I like the dress. Naomi looks stunning per usual, but this is really similar to her Oscar dress. Anna gets a little playful in fringe. Kind of over the cape, but this futuristic look on Nicole is nice. Rose just had a baby and looks pretty in this Ralph Lauren.

The pretty young things came too...
Kate is not dressed up at all. Short and See through with basic shoes, not enough for this event. But don't hate it either. Hailee in a dark lip and emerald green. Nothing show stopping, but pretty. Lily looks chic in Chanel. Mackenzie pulls off the cape way better than Nicole and this dress is gorgeous. Chloe is standing so awkwardly, but this dress is young and cool.

Lorde also has the most awkward pose ever, but this Valentino is pretty. Anna needs to smile, big time, but love the color of this blue. Alexa Chung goes sparkly tuxedo and I love it. I love this geometric on Zoe (?). Not sure I love all the fathers and random butterfly on Saorise, but like that she did something different.

There were a few grand entrances that worked I thought...
Allison's cut out is a little strange, but the dress is a work of art. Bee Shafer pretty much slays every year, this is great but also reminds me of her dress last year. Emma's dress has a strange kilt attached to it, but somehow she pulls it off. Zoe brought the drama in Dolce and it is pretty.

And of course the super models were out in full force...
Joan, Doetzen, and Alexandra all in Balmain, Love Doetzen's best. Feel like we have seen those other dresses before. I think the work gets lost on Bella's black gown, but she looks pretty.

Normally I loathe the naked dress, but this is a tailoring masterpiece on Karlie. I kind of wish that Amber's dress did not have a slit, but I love her entire look. Kendal's dress is kind of cool, just wish those cut outs were smaller, too bathing suit-y. Karolina's Marchesa is beautiful.

Gigi looks gorg, but so over this sheer over leotard/underwear look. Miranda's LV is not my fave. Naomi looks 22, so I guess the cheese factor of her dress is kind of ok. RHW is a goddess, seriously is she a real person? Simple, but lovely. Lara is a kind of unreal in tom Ford. like a living Bridgette Bardot.

Two bumps done so right on the red carpet...
Emily looks amazing and Olivia (never without a choker or course) looks radiant.

Some other looks I loved...
LSD can wear anything. Not sure I love the silhouette, but the dress is rad. Blake's matching earrings, dress, and lipstick are a little saccharine, but it is really pretty. This dress looks a little awkward in Emma, but certainly a strong look for the theme. I do not know this girls name, but this is a floral I can get behind. Love it with the hair.

I would not call this boring, but certainly safer looks of the night...
A Lauren in Lauren, I think it is a little old for her, but I love it. Margot got seriously sprayed up for tonight, but it is pretty. Elle looks gown up and gorgeous. Amber goes full vamp in nude. Maybe too nude, but great.

There were a couple squads there...
Haim the Band is cool enough to pull off mismatched Rodarte. Those headbands are pretty and I love the black dress. And Lena Dunham with her co creator of Girls escorted by Jenna Lyons is SO genius. I loved this so much. And I want those shoes Lena has on stat.

And then there were some risk takers. Not on the worst dressed, but controversial...
These first three ladies are all wearing Louis Vuitton and trying to bring back Doc Martins. Which I can appreciate, but not on this carpet. I actually love all of the dresses on their own. And Selena's make up and hair looks so fresh. Taylor is really intense with this new look. Like did you really need to throw on the black lip too? The boots are killer and I am sure she was dressed by Anna, but cut outs again??? Not terrible though.

Now on to the my worst dressed of the night...
Kylie has worn this dress before and the ice skating/pageant look is lame. Wows Kerry Washington. Let's begin with those gloves, then move to the hair, then the ill fitting dress and slit. Not great. If Gaga had worn bottoms to this jacket we would probably all be surprised, but bare legs and the boots is too much. Kim is actually not bad, but nothing revolutionary. Kanye's jeans, boots, sparkly jacket, and contacts throw them down at the bottom.

Rita is wearing Beyonce's naked dress form last year. Katie is over gothed. Zoe is actually not bad, but those shoes are so weird to me. Lupita was trying to make a statement and the dress comes off kind of cheesy. The hair is interesting, but not sure it makes the right statement.

Jared is just missing his monocle and looks creepy as s*it. Nicki is like a S&M Jessica Rabbit and she got the idea for those mesh gloves from Kerry. Oh Amy, I love her so much. But I cannot get behind this look. All very matchy and her dress comes off little cheap. Ugh that feels mean, but she could be in something SO much better. Chloe, come on now. Those boots and curls are not okay.

Madonna literally just got custody back of her teenage son and THIS is what she choses to wear. Again, that feels mean, but you are over 50! This look does not do Madge any justice. Alicia is kind of my favorite and this dress makes me want to curl into a ball. It kind of cannot be described. Ice skating costume/go go dancer/hiking boots. I am so sad. Speaking of sad, SJP. Come on lady, you always delight us with something fun and crazy and this is a big wha-wa. Demi, no. This is just a no.

So what do you think? Any I missed or you thought I got wrong? Would love to hear!

Best & Worst Dressed: Oscar 2016

This was by far one of the best Oscar red carpets in years. Everyone (well, almost) kind of killed it. Lots of colors, chic silhouettes, and full on glamour. Another thing was that most of the ladies were dressed in looks that really felt like them. While we know most of these looks are custom, the designers can sometimes get carried away. A lot of ladies really found their best matched dress and the results were beautiful.

Let's start with the crème de la crème...

From Left: Saoirse couldn't be more stunning in this emerald Calvin Klein. Love her hair and make up too. Charlize could lose the hair flip, but the dress and necklace are killer. Brie softened things up in Gucci, don't love the hair, but the dress more than makes up for it. You know I am a sucker for any 70s glam and Margot even throws in a hassled clutch, so of course its one of the top.

Alicia was so sweet when she won and this Louis Vuitton couldn't have been more perfect. Cate slays per usual. This dress looked like it was tailored on her body, was an absolute piece of art, and her hair and make up were perfection. Only Olivia could get away with something so simple, but this Stella McCartney was so gorgeously fitted and the color suited her. Jen showed up looking like a real life movie star. Love it. And Naomi's Armani looked even better on camera. She seems to always get it right these days.

And there were plenty of other beauties on the red carpet. Not quite at the top, but definitely note worthy. First these ladies in white...
I love Isla and this gown is so perfectly matched with that pony and red lip. I am luke warm on pants and the fit of this, but if anyone can pull it off it is LG. This is the see through dress done right on Priyanka.

Black was also represented well.
Mindy (who I am obsessed with) has never looked better, love her dress. Eddie Redmayne's wife always looks so chic and this is perfect for her bump. Julianne is usually at the top of my list and this was close, but there was something heavy about this dress that bugged a little bit. But you can hardly go wrong with custom Chanel, right? Kate has been so boring on almost every carpet and while this is still kind of boring, I love the unexpected fabric and her hair and make up.

Blue and purple were also popular
Reese didn't wow me in this, but she did get to wear Oscar de la Renta and it is beautiful. Though Sofia is wearing a strapless dress for the 1000th time, this is a slight departure and she pulls it off. Tina has never looked better. This dress and that insane necklace was a gorgeous choice. Patricia is the night's most improved. She is usually in some mess, but she looked great in this

These silver looks were all almost perfect
I love a classic Vivienne Westwood and this is beautiful on Lily. Love the shoes too. After I saw this Chanel on stage, Daisy really belongs at the top of the list. It sparkled and was insanely gorgeous. Charlotte kills it in this Armani, the shoes are questionable but she knows how to dress.

Now while it is hard because even the worst dressed looked kind of good, there were some dresses that could have been better.
I had predicted this Valentino to be on the carpet and loved it, but the way it is glued onto Olivia's chest and paired with this choker (why or why are chokers back?!) ruins it. Rachel's dress looks like an off the rack backless prom dress a 18 year old would beg her mom to wear because she knew it was a little too slutty. The wrinkles on the fabric kill me too. Jennifer's is not terrible, but I just do not like it. Not even sure why exactly, maybe too lingerie-ish? Love her hair and make up though. Rooney is once again dressed as the bride of frankenstein. Why does her hair have to be SO severe every time?!

Heidi always just goes a little far, right? This purple mess is no exception. Kerry looks like she is wearing a costume, I do not get it at all. Amy is dressed three decades too old for her! She is so much cooler and young than this. And Emily's could be good, but the top cheapens it and is not fitted right. She looks so pretty besides that.

Dying to know what you thought??? Did I miss any of your favorites?

Best & Worst Dressed: Golden Globes 2016

The Globes are my favorite. Since TV stars are almost becoming bigger than movie stars, it is nice to have them all on the same red carpet. There were some risk takers and some interesting choices, which I love. And let's start at the top of the top...

Newcomer Alicia Vikander nailed it. The ingenue in white LV made an apron dress look really good. Sweet, but sexy, and cut gorgeously. Best Dressed of the night.

Some of my runners up are kind of random, but I had an instant reaction to.

Julianne in sequined perfection. Love that color with her hair. Kate is posed so strangely, but that dress is gorgeous. Amber looking regal in an elegant gown in a great color for her. Love the lipstick. And I loved this delicate, sweet dress on Miss Golden Globe (Jaime Fox's daughter).

And another lady w.ho looked gorgeous..
Hair, make up, dress, all on point. Channing's facial hair and weird side part? Not so much.

White was a nice choice...
Judith Light showing who really is the boss (had to do it) in this tux. Slay. Pretty young things, Saoirse and Lily, in nothing earth shattering but pretty. And Taraji did this weird pose with her train all night, but I like this simple column on her.

 Black word as well...
Sophia kept is simple with black, diamonds, and a red lip. I am a fool for velvet and I like Kirstin's make up a lot. Though maybe a bit more coverage would be good. I am also a fool for a tux and Taylor looks chic. Amy's dress was great on her.

Shades of blueish...
I really wanted Anna to win! Loves this on her. This blue gown on Jane the Virgin was just a bit overwhelming on her frame, but pretty. Lily Tomlin's dress is plain, but I think so great on her. And Kate, while boring, looked nice. A little Ramona blue never hurt anyone.

Singers who also act looked good...
Jennifer covered up and looked awesome. Thank you for showing us that wearing clothes with no cut outs is even better. Zendaya looks pretty and can pull off this volume. Katy's dress is somehow slightly ill fitting, but she looked good in pink.

And a few shades of green I liked...
Forgot this girl on the lefts name, but I love her dress. I know Olivia's is super controversial, but I love it. If anyone can pull it off she can. I know you prob hate it! And the girl on the right won and was hilarious. This green did her good.

Red and orange was a popular color...
I like the drape of Natalie's dress. Amy took a risk in orange as a red head and nailed it. I really loved Jennifer's. I did not love that necklace with it. Angela hasn't aged in years and looks great in this red number.

There was a little sparkle that worked...
I go back and forth on this gold dress on Brie. The top did not fit, but she looked pretty. Heidi was fun and festive. I love a retro 70s vibe like one on Melissa. And the girl on the right (why do I not know so many names? probably a good thing, actually) was really someone I should have put at the top. This dress was really great.

Another best/worst couple...
Olivia looks amazing. And Jason could have, but then decided these sneakers would be a good idea. They were not. ugh

Lady Gaga went full Marilyn...
This dress was really gorgeous, but sometimes I think she dresses a bit old for her age. Taylor looks a bit off too.

And now a few questionable ladies. Was it good or was it bad? Hard to tell...
Maggie's dress looks intricately beaded and pretty, but that yellow is a bit off to me. The cut of Rachel's dress is gorgeous, the print I have a love/hate relationship with. Eva was this close. If she would have lost the bow on the belt, this could easily be a best. A the Great Cate, who can never really go wrong, might have gone a bit far. I can appreciate the art of this dress, but I don't like the hair and there is such thing as too much of a good thing. In this case, fringe.

And the worst list...

I think I saw that this lady's name was Mariel or something. There are no words. Sorry, girl.

Blush dresses did not do these ladies good...
Amanda and Rooney both wore shredded up dresses that do not look good at all. Poor Savannah, just a bad color choice, length, and all around selection for her. Kate is rocking, no doubt, but I saw her pull at that tube top (yes, she wore a tube top to the Globes) twice and the choker thing is not my fave.

Saffron (yep, that is her name) kind of looks like she has a beach cover up on. I am really over the full cut out dresses and Guliana's has to add the floor length sleeve? Yea, no. Felicity looks like a contestant for Mrs. America. yikes. Regina's is actually not that bed, but the addition of the cape and shoe selection makes it a worst.

Emilie's dress is just too much fabric and so heavy on her. I do not like that neckline either. Calista looks dowdy. I want to love Jane's, I really do, but it is too heavy. Jada has those sweeping sleeves like Guliana. They bug.

I have a love for RHW, and I thought these two were off their game last night.

Not horrible, but somehow his tux, the cut and color of the dress. Don't love it.

So what do you think? What were your best and worst????
