Denim + Lace

Mixing something very feminine with something more masculine is the oldest trick in the book when it comes to styling. It keeps a look from being too saccharin or too boyish, the perfect balance. And no combination is as easy as soft lace and classic denim. I feel like this combo especially looks great during season transitions, like right now. Here is how I would wear it...

Shirt: Cloth & Stone $88, Skirt: Trina Turk $248

Romper: Liv $196, Jacket: Madewell $118

Top: Cupcakes & Cashmere $100, Jeans: Paige $179

Top: J. Crew $50, Jeans: J. Crew $115

Skirt: Cupcakes & Cashmere $95, Shirt: Loft $59

Top: Anthropologie $68, Jeans: Madewell $135

Shorts: Anthropologie $68, Shirt: Madewell $70

Dress: Madewell $168, Jacket: Treasure & Bond $52 (on sale)

Happy Monday!

Exciting News

Over the years of writing this blog different opportunities have come up that I have been so fortunate to be a part. From hosting parties, to writing for other publications, to helping readers with anything they need fashion and home wise. All of this is because of the support I have from all of you, and for that I am so so grateful.

I have been getting more and more requests to help with individual fashion needs and decided to add styling consultation to my online presence. The best part is all it takes is an email to me with a few details and you will have your own personal stylist (me!) to put together whatever you need.

If you ever need help for a particular event, a trip, or maybe a certain area of your wardrobe (i.e: casual clothes for Fall, breezy summer dresses, pieces to spice up your work looks) simply contact me at

Include in the email what your needs are, your size, your time frame, and your budget. Try to give me a bit of an idea of what your personal style is like and what you are most comfortable in.

I will then send you back your own personal style board with options for what you are looking for and links to the items to purchase online.

The best part is that there is no additional cost for my help. I am compensated through the retailers (much like a consultant in the store), so you have your personal shopper in me. Great, right?

I truly love helping all of you and and so excited to hear form you when you need help. I have added a page to the header at the top of the homepage with all of this information, so you can access anytime.

None of this is ever possible without you and I hope you ask for help when you need it! Also your referrals are everything to me, so spreading the word is much appreciated.

Here's to happier closets.

What to Wear

When you get married your husband becomes your roommate for life. And while I love living with Matt, I miss the days of having a girlfriend down the hall to raid her closet and give me an opinion of what to wear. I got a taste of this again when I was with my friends in LA and it was so fun trying on outfits, dressing each other up, and giving the honest truth. And I could use some help with my choice for a Friday night out with my friends to celebrate the birthday. Can you help a girl out?

Choice #1: White tank & Leather mini

Would add some bangles and cuffs and stick to the white, black, and gray palate.

Choice #2: Navy chiffon top & pink skinnies

This top is actually see through with an open back, so I could wear a lacey cami to sass it up in back. It is actually on sale now in pale pink

Choice #3: White tank & Neon striped bandage skirt

Not sold on my shoe choice with this, but could switch it up with some pink pumps.

So ladies, which should I choose? Would love your opinion!

Paris Couture Fashion Week for Oscars 2013

There is no doubt that I am opinionated about what is worn on the red carpet for awards season. Maybe a little too harsh. My view though is that these girls get to pick from the very best dresses from the world's most talented designers and wasting that opportunity makes me angry. I am sure the stylists that are used are very nice people, but sometimes they get it wrong. Not to say I would do that much better, so I thought I would put myself to the test. The couture shows wrap up this week in Paris and there have been some seriously gorgeous gowns that are perfect contenders for the Oscars. Here are some of my favorite gowns and the girls I would put them in.

Amanda Seyfried is young and gorgeous and she needs to edge up a bit. This Altier Versace gown is sleek, modern and will help her stand out.

Anne Hathaway has a pretty good chance of walking away with a little gold man. She needs something stunning so those pictures last a lifetime. This Ellie Saab would be beautiful with her skin and hair.

I have no idea who would wear this, but I am in love with this Chanel. Would love for someone to go out on a limb and rock it.

Jessica Chastain has been kind of lame this awards season and she is so gorgeous. This Valentino is structurally interesting and true couture. Maybe they could make it in more of a blue or blush for her.

Adele always wears black, I think it is time she broke out of that. I thought of her immediately when this Giambattista Valli was shown. The models red hair shows you how amazing Adele would look in it. The cut is also flattering and forgiving for a mew mum.

Naomi Watts is flawless and classic. This Dior is the same with a bit of a twist. The color is amazing and I think she would seriously take home best dressed if she wore it. In LOVE with it.

Jennifer Lawrence is a wild card. She is young and has that "I don't really care" attitude that makes her able to pull off almost anything. This Atelier Versace has a print, which I love and I think she could steal the carpet with it. (lose the hat and the bar on the shoulder)

Jennifer Garner will be on the arm of Ben, at least we hope! This red Ellie Saab would be the perfect compliment to her dashing husband. Since she is not nominated she can only go so far, but this lace and the red color are gorgeous.

Helen Hunt is such a babe now, but she is of a certain age. This Ellie Saab would be beautiful on her and still sexy.

Weekend Wish: Here Comes Awards Season

Awards season officially kicked off with the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday. Certainly not one that I watch, but still like to check out the style. There were some really horrible dresses circa Prom '95, but also some cool, modern cut dresses that I hope to see more of this weekend at the Golden Globes.

Brights are still all over the place on the red carpet, and these two ladies took it a step farther with the addition of some lace. Both trends we saw on the runway for Fall and Spring of this year.

I love the mix of feminine fabrics and ruching with leather in Kristen Bell's dress. Nina Debrov killed it in this kelly green dress with delicate lace sleeves. The color is stunning and the accessories are perfect, nice and neutral.

If you followed me during awards season last year, you know I am pretty harsh when it comes to the styling. These ladies show us that less is more when your dress is so loud. And pretty, loose hair with natural makeup keeps the young, young.

My wish is that Sunday's Golden Globes (which REALLY kicks off awards season) has some looks that actually dazzle us a bit. Sometimes no one takes risks and the gowns get very pageant and boring. Would love to see all those beautiful pastel colors from the Spring '12 collections, as well as brights done in tasteful, modern ways.

Can't wait. Happy Weekend!

Diane in Venice

popsugar.com

Diane Kruger can really do no wrong when it comes to red carpet looks. She has fantastic taste, knows how to push boundaries just enough and she carries everything she wears with complete ease.

This soft pink Ellie Saab from the Venice Film Festival opening is gorgeous. I love how the layers work so you can see her silhouette, but it is not offensive. This is much more Hollywood glamour then we usually see and I like it. Her undone hair and simple make up is the perfect styling.

She then changed into this lovely Chanel for dinner later. How perfect is that dress? The sequins dress it up and the illusion that there is layering keeps it cool. The casual side braid, one of her signature styles, keeps the entire look fresh.

I heart her. I cannot imagine how fun it must be to be one of the designers that dress her. Her fearless and cool attitude make for the perfect combination. And she never leaves the house not looking just plain pretty.
