A Rug to Live With

Searching for rugs is a deep, dark, endless hole that can literally drive you mad. Rugs are such a large investment and the options are endless online. I have been searching for a new rug for our main living space for awhile. I have the used to be ever popular PB zig zag rug currently...

And while it is not terrible, I am just really over chevron. It would not bother me as much if we had a large ottoman or coffee table in this space, but this location is still used for major dance party action (one of my favorite parts of the day) and I want to keep it that way as long as possible. (note: the day my kids stop wanting to dance party will literally kill me)

I have had my eye on a custom beauty with a price tag that makes you lose your breath. But even if I was in a position to make that investment, there are too many sticky hands and rogue snacks in my house right now for anything that precious. So I have been searching the retail sites and have found some great options. Because of the dark floors I would like to keep the color light and am debating whether to go with a pattern or simply a texture.

Prices based off 8x10, but most come in many sizes.
Pretty patterns...
1. Spendy, but beautiful from One Kings Lane $2999
2. Even though it is dark, I love this Serena & Lily $1699
3. A little boho/tribal, looks lighter in pics Suzanne Kasler $1399
4. Don't love "fake" vintage usually, but this is pretty sweet  Pottery Barn $899
5. Love the subtle pattern Pottery Barn $999
6. Think this is my favorite of all the patterns Astoria Grand $1399

 And texture...
1. I love the texture of this from PB Teen, and with that price tag I would be ok with the clean up $499
2. This has a great braided texture RH Teen $750
3. Love this sweet honeycomb in blue by Dash & Albert $1180
4. I am a sucker for braided rope like this. Love the grey and white Dash & Albert $1417
5. A rug woven like tile is genius West Elm $629
6. Cozy cotton by Suzanne Kasler $679

As much as I love a pattern, I think I am leaning towards a solid texture instead. I torture myself with decisions like this and a solid color seems so much easier to choose. I can mix in more color and pattern with new pillows (Been eyeing this one with this one). Which are your favorites? What should I choose? Would love your opinions.

Retail Therapy

I mean what else makes you feel better than online shopping in the cold? Here is what is in my favorite sites carts currently…

1. Obsessed with this long pillow which would look cool on my bed. Lulu & Georgia $199
2. A little black dress that could go anywhere. findersKeepers $168
3. In need of a new jean jacket and I love the color and the fact this one stretches.  J. Crew $128
4. Full blown leather leggings are a little out of reach right now, but these have quite a bit of leather and are on sale for $200. June
5. Fringe and cobalt, LOVE. Steve Madden $130
6. Really loving the layered delicate necklace look. This would be a nice addition with my kids' initials.  Bauble Bar $240

If only I could order all of these to keep me warm. ha
Happy shopping and stay cozy.

Exciting News

Over the years of writing this blog different opportunities have come up that I have been so fortunate to be a part. From hosting parties, to writing for other publications, to helping readers with anything they need fashion and home wise. All of this is because of the support I have from all of you, and for that I am so so grateful.

I have been getting more and more requests to help with individual fashion needs and decided to add styling consultation to my online presence. The best part is all it takes is an email to me with a few details and you will have your own personal stylist (me!) to put together whatever you need.

If you ever need help for a particular event, a trip, or maybe a certain area of your wardrobe (i.e: casual clothes for Fall, breezy summer dresses, pieces to spice up your work looks) simply contact me at

Include in the email what your needs are, your size, your time frame, and your budget. Try to give me a bit of an idea of what your personal style is like and what you are most comfortable in.

I will then send you back your own personal style board with options for what you are looking for and links to the items to purchase online.

The best part is that there is no additional cost for my help. I am compensated through the retailers (much like a consultant in the store), so you have your personal shopper in me. Great, right?

I truly love helping all of you and and so excited to hear form you when you need help. I have added a page to the header at the top of the homepage with all of this information, so you can access anytime.

None of this is ever possible without you and I hope you ask for help when you need it! Also your referrals are everything to me, so spreading the word is much appreciated.

Here's to happier closets.

Vacation Prep: Baby Edition

I remember those days when you could just pack the night before, throwing a few cute outfits in a bag, some essential toiletries, and off you were to paradise. If you can still enjoy this easy prep for a trip, lucky you! I am jealous. We leave for a trip this week with both kids, our first not staying with family. And while I have done this before, it never ceases to amaze me what goes in to transporting children (and parents) comfortably. I wrote this post before Tommy's first trip and the advice from other moms was so helpful. Besides the to-do lists and to-pack lists that I start a couple weeks out, these two online services are by far the best tools to get you where you need to go without hauling the entire nursery.

First, Diapers.com. If you have never used this site or one of its co-sites (Soap for essentials, Wag for pets, Vine for natural products, they are all awesome and you can pretty much get everything you could ever need), you should try it. They have every baby essential that you need, plus toys, gear, clothes, everything. Best part is, free shipping usually in two days. Before a trip, I order everything I will need for our destination and have it delivered the day before. If we are staying at a hotel, I simply give them the heads up that it will be arriving.

Second, is Traveling Baby. This service can be found in most major cities and allows you to rent baby equipment for your trip. It can be delivered or picked up, and in some cities they will meet you at the airport. They carry everything from cribs to toys to high chairs. It is all sanitized and clean and ready for use. They simply pick it up at the end of your trip.

What services have you used for trips to make traveling with kids easier? This family friendly vacation rental company looks fab, Kid & Coe. Would love to try it sometime.

PS: I have no shame in that this is my son's set up to get through a four hour flight.

Honestly

I have gotten a lot of questions about the Honest Company, so I thought I should share what has worked for us and what has not from Ms. Alba's new venture.

If you do not know, the Honest Company provides eco-friendly, non toxic products via the web and delivered to your door. They offer baby supplies (from diapers, wipes, to lotion), cleaning products, and some toiletries. It is always nice to find products that are natural to use for everyone in your household when they actually do their job.

Let me say that unlike many bloggers, I have not received any free gifts or promotions from the site and if I did that would be the first thing you would know. So this is a totally unbiased opinion. Although if Jessica wants to send me some swag, feel free girl.

I started using the diapers when he was about a year. Many people have complained of leaks and I have to say I have not had any trouble. We still use Pampers overnight diapers at night, but supposedly Honest is going to have some of those soon. The patterns are all super cute, as are the plain white ones. They run true to size as any other brand.

The wipes have not been my favorite. I am only using them to clean up faces and hands after eating and on the go, since the travel size is perfect to slip into a purse. I would say they have some work to do to make the wipes as effective as the Pampers ones I usually use.

I LOVE the Multi-Surface Cleaning Spray. I use it everywhere, especially in the kitchen. It smells amazing, but also can get out grease on your stove or a stain on your counter with ease. I will be trying some new products since this was so great.

The sunscreen is the only other product I have tried and it is really nice. It is a greasier formula, but smells good. So far no red noses when using it over here. I have tried it as well, but only on my bod since it seems to greasy for my face.

You can order each individually or do a bundle a month. I chose individually because I am a control freak about having stock around. The bundle (for baby or household products) can save you some money. I had always used diapers.com before, so I am used to the speedy delivery, which you have to pay for with Honest. They do offer free ground shipping, though.

Next up in my box is the laundry pods. Interested to see how those go and will let you know. What has your experience been like? Overall, I think the message and products are great and hopefully they continue to improve and expand their line.

They offer free trials, get started here if you like what you hear.

The Reductress

If you are or have ever been a fan of the The Onion, meet the new "she" version that is honestly freaking hilarious. The Reductress is stocked with sartorial articles that you know are based off real information that is so ridiculous, it might just be the next new thing in parenting/dating advice/marriage counseling/celebrity gossip/etc.

It is the perfect online distraction. Check out the article my friend, Courtney, wrote. The entire site is written by women who clearly can see that the online content for women is insanity and crazy easy to make fun of. But in a really smart way. Love it.

Virtual Room Planning

Growing up I loved to move my furniture around. It did not matter how heavy it was and how many times I moved it, I loved switching things up in my bedroom. If I still had my way, I would be moving things around just as often around my house. Unfortunately, the furniture is heavier and my better half has a strict one-time move policy. Can't blame the guy as he can see that I that one move turns into two, three... he obviously knows me. So floor plans have been the best way for me to plan furniture out so I can see what will actually work. I have tried drawing my own, but can never quite get the scale right.
Luckily I found this amazing site that requires only you to measure the room and its contents. Then you can move everything around as many times as you want to find the perfect combination. Urban Barn is a furniture company that supplies this free service. Once you play around with it a bit, it is very easy to use.

My great room has been the place that I want to continually move things around in. This tool has helped me see the combination that will work best for the room. This is my handy work and no heavy lifting!

I like that you can add in the windows, doors, and wall sections you might have.

This is a fantastic tool if you are ordering new furniture as well. See how that piece will fit into the room based on the dimensions online. No more guessing. Or am I the only one that does that?
