Layer Up

This winter is so strange and somehow there is no way to not think about Spring in February. Mostly because it felt like it all weekend. I know some of you are hidden under snow and wet from the endless rain as well, so thinking of warmer temps and fun Spring looks is probably welcome. The transition from Winter to Spring is usually the time when your jackets and sweaters get the most use. Here are some looks that will be perfect for those in-between times of warmth and cold and quite frankly right now.

Not So Basic Basics for Fall

Though the temperatures say differently, Fall is here. With sweaters pilled and shirts with spots (honestly, why does everything have a stain on it?!), an update of last year's basics that were worn to their death is in need. I pulled a bunch of pieces for a friend while doing a closet refresh and loved all of these. The perfect additions that you can wear every day, week, and month until it is time to break out the shorts and flips again.

1. I love the soft feel of this Blue Corduroy Blazer, the color is so great, but it also comes in neutrals.
2. This really is the perfect shirt by Cloth & Stone. It also comes in a pretty coral.
3.  A perfect Pointy Toe Flat, that is not too pointy.
4. I live in this dress at home. Sweatshirt dress
6. A little edge to go with your morning coffee. Faux Leather knit cardigan
7. This Nars Velvet Matt Lipstick Pencil in Dragon Girl is such a go to. A foolproof red that looks great on everyone. And you can layer it for just a stain or full blown vamp.
8. These Rails plaid shirts are so soft, machine washable, and a great update to the flannel.
9. The updated skin pant from J. Crew everyone is raving about.
10. A cozy Shawl Open Collar Cardigan that comes in a few colors.
11. A Stripe sweater dress that can be worn day or night.
12. A little investment in a J.Crew T-Shirt Cashmere Sweater will go a long way.

I also love these Tights and these Leggings. Staples for under dresses, tunics, and long sweaters all winter long.

Happy Weekend friends!

Cozy Up

It's cold.
Officially.
The wind is gusting and hats are necessary. And to top it off everyone in my house has a cold.
And even with all of that, it was a wonderful week. A joyful one filled with family and friends.
Wine, great food, laughter, and cozy sweaters make everything better. Even after a sleepless night.
Winter's best feature is slightly over sized sweaters that you can curl up in, eat treats with abandon, and still look cute enough to run errands. I hope your weekend is cozy and filled with laughter too. Here are some options to get you started.

1. Asos $56 / 2. American Vintage $130 / 3. Asos $85 / 4. Soft Joie $96 / 5. Asos $56 / 6. Oak $135 / 7. Gap $64 / 8. Theory $194 (on sale) / 9. Anthropologie $118

I want them all. Seriously. The above all paired with these (on sale) are pretty much my winter uniform.
Happy Weekend

Seeing Stars

Lately, there have been a lot of stars sporting stars....

I am loving this print for Fall as it steps aways from the florals of summer and has a really playful vibe. You can also switch it up by changing up the scale. Larger stars have more of an impact, while the smaller print allows you to have some fun without being too literal.

1. Black star print blazer Topshop $130
2. L'Agence Star sweater from Net-A-Porter $245
3. L'Agence chiffon star print blouse from Matches $285

Heavy Metal Sweater?

J. Crew has long been a Fall weather staple. Vivid memories of sweater shopping always come to mind as the temperatures start to slightly change and it is time for something a bit warmer. J. Crew has changed quite a bit since my first rugby shirt was purchased there in the late eighties. But, their sweater selection is just a vast come late August, yet the styles have gotten so much better. You can always find your favorite comfy pullover as well as some new styles that will keep you interested.

I came across this metallic number and loved the heavy feel of it, yet it was not too warm.

Metallics woven into sweaters is a great trend for Fall and a great way to elevate a look from frumpy sweater and jeans to something you could wear for drinks out.

Luckily other designers have taken notice and you can find metallics everywhere.

1. Vince at Barney's $335
2. Madewell $118
3. Express $60

What's Your Uniform?

I remember reading a personal style article in Vogue a few years back from an adorable NYC girl-about-town (can't remember who exactly) and she talked about her uniform each day. She was not a doctor or WNBA player, but one of those sickingly cute city girls you envy. Her uniform was a cashmere sweater, jeans, and boots, except in summer when she wore Capri sandals and switched the sweater to a white button down shirt. Photos of her looked polished and chic, not boring as I would expect from wearing the same outfit every day. She played with her accessories a bit and her hair was perfectly blown out or pulled back into a messy chignon. After reading this I really loved the idea of a uniform and although I never planned it, I kind of started to wear one myself. Albeit mine is a bit frumpier and way less pulled together, I am hoping I channel that chic NYC girl sometimes.

My uniform most days consists of leggings, a long top or sweater, flats or boots, and some sort of jewelry to make me feel good. I know I am not the only one who wears this uniform, as most people I see out and about are wearing a slightly different outfit than me on most days. I have to say, I love having a uniform as it makes getting dressed in the morning easy, I always feel comfortable, and it is easy to switch up. Now and again it is jeans instead of leggings or a dress or skirt in the warmer months, but right now I am all about the comfort of leggings. We all wear this outfit because it is not tight and ridiculously easy to put together. So what's your uniform? If yours is like mine, I have been searching for some more tops and came across I few that you might like (some are on sale!).
