Celebration: One Year

It is kind of unfair that in only one year's time your sweet baby can go from this

to this.

The time warp is a little cruel, but the journey is also quite the ride. Nothing can prepare you for that first baby's arrival. And just when you think the second time around will be cake, it kicks you right in the ass. But keeping life interesting is what kids do every day. And what we love them for.

My sweet Miss Mary is one today and we will be celebrating this little lady all weekend. The joy she has brought to us is immeasurable. I love her spunky, no fear attitude and the way she does not let her older brother run the show, at all.

I am wishing my darling girl another year filled with belly giggles, tons of bananas, extra splashing in the bath tub, couch gymnastics, and endless smooches and snuggling.

Stop growing up my love.
Happy weekend.

Second Time Around

It has been eleven weeks since becoming a parent of two. Two is such a big number to me now. Everything in life should be referred to by double (or triple if you have three, etc.) when talking about taking care of more than one child. Because it is not just about two, it is about doubling the amount of everything. In my house that means diapers and bottles, colds and night wakings, smiles and cuteness.

It is not necessarily that much harder as it is that much more intense. Every day is a juggle of who will wake up first, who gets fed first, who takes a nap next, all until the end of the day. Which by the way is around seven and I follow shortly to sleep at eight. Time goes slowly, yet so fast, it is the strangest thing. I heard the best description for this time in life, "The days are long, but the years are short."

You know you have heard a million times from parents before you that time goes so quickly, but when you are sleep deprived and crazed you think that those people are straight liars. But now you know it is true and they were probably the parents of multiple children.

Not much of my pregnancy, delivery and postpartum was different from the last. Easy pregnancy, quick delivery, and hormone craziness with the baby blues for a month or so. Now that amnesia that Moms suffer is starting to happen. The memories of how hard it was nine months pregnant to chase after a toddler seem hazy, and the uncomfortable tightness of those crazy contractions seems like something that never happened, and the weird anxiety that I suffer in those first weeks fades from my conscious. It is strange how it is so hard to remember so quickly. But I guess that is what makes us do it again.

The best part is you start feeling like yourself around three months. Albeit a squishier, slightly crazed, not always out of your pajamas each day self. But more like a human that can function with the outside world. And each month it gets better. For everyone.

So we are having a good time in our house. Baby girl has discovered her brother and loves watching him. It is crazy cute. Baby boy has some really interesting dance moves that are the highlight of my day (think modern dance meets raver). And date night is happening again. Even if it is wine after the kids go to bed.

So the second time around has been great so far. I highly recommend it and good luck to those that are also in it.

Greetings from Motherhood

Six weeks later and these are my revelations so far...

There are no words to describe how amazing becoming a mom really feels like.

Smiles count even when your baby's eyes are closed.

It is totally normal to cry over spilled breast milk.

Seeing your man become a Dad is awesome.

Locking eyes with your newborn melts you from the inside out.

You have never showered and got ready so fast in your life.

Three hours of straight sleep feels like eight used to.

Diaper activity suddenly is normal conversation.

You consider yourself a baby whisperer because you can interrupt cries in an instance.

The internet is a new mom's easiest resource and worst enemy.

You are pretty much obsessed with every grunt, coo, spurt, hiccup. It is all cute.

You cannot help yourself but to post a picture on Facebook because this one has to be shared.

The one time you forget to cover up your son when changing his diaper, he will pee on you and you will crack up laughing. Every time.

Grandparents are the happiest people on the planet.

Sometimes you still cannot believe you had a baby and at the same time cannot imagine life without him.

Though I may be writing about parenthood, baby and family once a week or so, this blog is still going to be filled with frivolous fashion, style, decor and all things that make us happy.

Even in full emersion in baby land, I have had a few spare moments to keep up with style blogs, red carpet events and even done a little Spring shopping. (BTW, how amazing are the looks for Spring we have been seeing everywhere? More on that later)

So let's get back to it for a bit....

Back during NYFW I made some red carpet predictions for the Oscars, and although  only one made an appearance at the actual event....
Amazing
two more predictions popped up in the last couple weeks that looked fab. So jealous of these two girls, because these dresses were unbelievable on the runway and even better on them.

Very similar styles and they both look gorgeous with minimal styling and a young, fresh look. Way to go Taylor Swift for not dressing for the Homecoming dance you never got to go to, but wrote a song about wanting a boy to ask you. Ever since that Vogue cover, it looks like she has gotten some great style advice. Jennifer Lawrence has been taking risks all over the globe for The Hunger Games premieres and making it work. Crushed on this Vicotoria Beckham she wore the other night for a European premiere.

I would have picked different shoes, but the dress is amaze....
These looks feel a bit far away from my nursing bra/leggings combination I have been sporting most of my six weeks, but it gets me very excited for the weeks to come and dressing up.

Last revelation.... Just as I am about to finish a post, the babe will start crying and make me rush it. Best part is, I don't mind at all.
