Shopping With the All American Girl

We all covet Jennifer Aniston in some ways (or all). Her style, her bod, her man, her friends, her real estate, her career, it is endless. But really she represents to us what an All American girl is. Nice (or at least we think she is), gorgeous (without trying), has a laid back approach to style and life, and doesn't seem to take anything too seriously (except causes of charity). Her style is so envied because it is so classic and has ease, which is harder to do than most think. I have pulled together three of her recent and much repeated looks so we can get inspired to be just like Jen this Summer.

For the Beach

Jen always keeps it simple. Solid bikini and aviators

For the Weekend

Distressed denim shorts, a classic striped tee, and the wedges she has worn everywhere.

For a Fancy Night Out

Nothing looks cooler than a tailored blazer over a short metallic dress. Starburst earrings and some amazing strappy Jimmy Choos are the perfect accessories.

The girl knows what she is doing and we love her for it. I hope this gives you some inspiration and some ideas for your next look.

Interior Inspiration: Summer House Santa Monica

Last weekend I had the pleasure of going to Summer House Santa Monica for the first time. Though the name makes it seem like I ventured away from Chicago, this spot is actually located in Lincoln Park. The name of this restaurant totally does it justice. Once you walk in you immediately feel the tranquil, coastal California vibe. Light and bright with a lovely outdoor patio and flanked by a white planked bar that makes you feel like you are saddled up by the beach. The best part is that (and perfect for when you want to feel like you escaped in the middle of winter) there is sky lighted courtyard that makes you feel like you are dining al fresco. Shades totally required. The food was also delicious and light.

Being in this atmosphere made me crave that California feeling. Even though I grew up in Chicago, my family and my heart really is in sunny So Cal. It inspired me to put together some interior ideas to bring this fresh and coastal feeling home.

Get the Look: Olivia Palermo

We all worship Olivia. How this girl gets it right every damn time is not lost on me. How can someone look so flawless and styled to perfection when doing just about anything? She clearly does not need a stylist and many of the looks that you have probably loved were of her just leaving her apartment after she pulled from her own closet. The girl just nails it. Case in point, she just pulled this look out so she can walk her dog. Most people do this in yoga pants and their husband's fleece, not OP...

The boucle jacket with the peplum is so cute and a great alternative to a classic blazer. Kind of loving the combo of the striped one above with the floral heels. The vintage inspired shades are not ones that I am drawn to normally, but Olivia shows you how chic they can look. PS: That necklace above is a locket and long, kind of obsessed.

Do you think she stays super chic while cleaning up after that pup? I bet she has Missoni printed doggie bags. ha

Get the Look: Jenna Dewan

As one of my friends put it recently, Jenna Dewan is known for two (maybe three things) but has somehow kept on the A list radar pretty well. She is married to Channing Tatum (how did he get so famous too?!), she "got her body back after baby" (gag), and she was the star of one of the best movies ever made, Step Up. Oh, and let's not forget that random relationship with Justin Timberlake (there was a dance off involved, natch).

Regardless of all this cheesiness, the girl wowed me last week with this easy to recreate day look.

The peplum top with the skinny boyfriend jean is a great combo. I worship those shoes, but the above I found from Nordstrom are a total bargain and pretty darn close.

If she keeps this up she may actually deserve the press she is getting.

Steal the Look: Karlie, Miranda & Sienna

These three ladies had my favorite looks this week. All of them are always so put together, even when it seems like they are barely trying. Though these are all very different looks, I noticed that there is very little accessories involved. No statement jewelry or stacks of bangles, just classic silhouettes and pieces perfectly matched.

Karlie's buttery dress is gorg. That is a really hard dress cut to pull off if you are not as tall and pin thin as her. A fit and flare would be more flattering on us mortals and I love that pointy toe heels are making a come back.

Parker dress, Manolo Blahnik shoes

Miranda is killing it. From the red carpet, to the airport, to lunching with her little man, she always looks amazing. I love this look because it shows you can probably throw this together with a few new pieces with what you already have. Simple, classic, with a splash of color.

T by Alexander Wang shirt, Missoni scarf, AG jeans, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, Seychelles sandals

I love me a good floral. Girlie and femme with a bit of flirt. Sienna kept it simple with some drop earrings, soft waves in her hair, and some strappy sandals. I LOVE the Parker dress that is similar, thinking of going on a limb and ordering in my hope-to-be-again size.

J. Crew earrings, Parker dress, Alexandre Birman sandals

Which one is your favorite inspiration?

The lovely ladies of the red carpet are the perfect inspiration for your holiday party dress shopping. I only have a couple of invitations this year that warrant a flirty cocktail look. I plan on wearing this again and think one of these should fill in for the second.

Girl Crush: Miroslava Duma

It has been a busy week and getting through all the images of all of the shows during fashion week is not happening. It is even a little hard seeing all the light pretty clothes when I am really looking forward to sweaters and boots. So far Alexander Wang, Victoria Victoria Beckham and Rebecca Minkoff are highlights and I hope to get through some more of the shows over the next week.

Let's face it though, seeing the street style rivals the shows themselves. While the Courtin-Clarins sisters are still my fave girls to see, Miroslava Duma has seriously won me over with her eclectic, pulled together, yet I-just-threw-this-on style.

I love her easiness and choices that appear to come straight from her own closet, not a stylist's. Miroslava also does not pick choices to make too bold of a statement, just to make a statement. She has fantastic style and I wish I could sit front row with this girl.

At the very least we can get inspired by some of her looks this week and channel a bit of what this girl has showed us on the streets of NYC.

1. Coach $198
2. ASOS $112
3. Baublebar $300
4. Marc Jacobs $298
5. Baublebar $49
6. J. Crew $175
7. Madewell $118
8. J. Crew $95
10. Baublebar $36
11. TopShop $58

Happy NYFW.

Get the Look: Diane Kruger

My love for Diane and her style runs deep. The girl can do no wrong and did not disappoint at the Met Ball. This Prada, that I am sure was specially made just for her, is amazing. The feathers add drama, but the simply designed camisole top and easy styling makes it the perfect look.

I wish "Mrs. Prada" could make me this. But until then, I am loving these two options.

1. Theory $415
3. Anthropologie $198
4. One by Babs $425
5. Soixante Neuf $148

Though the drama of the feathers would not be as practical for say a wedding or black tie affair in our world, the addition of an open back to the dress adds just enough. I love these long pendant necklaces, as you can layer them while dressing up or down. Diane's Prada clutch was a bold choice, and something to not be afraid to do. This summer, nothing is "too much." Have you seen how much neon is around?
